Abs light stays on & A/C stopped blowing cold air

I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan all the gauges on the dashboard stopped working and the Check Engine & ABS light came on. The A/C stopped blowing cold air. They stopped working a few months ago, Today the suddenly started working and then I turned off the engine and then they didn't work again. I'm going to take it to the shop this week any idea what's going on?

My ABS, brake, Trac off lights came on for the first time a few months ago. When they are on the A/C / heater power will not function. When I disconnect the battery they will reset. The first time this happened the lights stayed off for a few weeks. Now they come on in a matter of minutes. An experiment I performed today showed me that the vehicle does not have to be in motion for this problem to manifest. I let it idle for 20 minutes then drove it for 2 blocks before the lights came on. When I returned home I disconnected the battery, reset the lights then restarted the van. Within a minute the lights came on while setting still idling.

The BCM (body control module) is the problem, have it replaced, this is a common issue on your van.

Another problem with the instrument panels in these vans is the connection on the back of the panel. The solder connection is not good. If you are able to do it , remove the panel and touch all of the connections with a soldering iron. this should solve your problem.

If you look under the dashboard on the driver's side, there is a fuse panel. Under this panel is the BCM(body control module). There may be a bad relay in the bcm. Worse case scenario is a bad BCM. I hope this information is helpful to you, Good luck.

you need to go over your entire wiring harness, under the hood and inside the dash. Start with the ground wire on the battery and work your way inside. It sounds like there is a loose ground wire somewhere

SOURCE: 1997 dodge grand caravan - dashboard gauges does

I expect the is should do it for you.

There has been issues with the solder joints on the PIN connection to the gauge cluster. The issue being that over time thru vibration and such one of these solder joints will fail (happened on or 1999) you can repair this though. You will have to remove all of the trim from around the driver's side dash board, this will include the trim towards the center of the dash. Once these pieces are remove you'll need to remove the gauge panel (I believe (4) allen head screws) carefully bring the panel and release the wire clip from it. Looking at the back of the panel, where the plug was, carefully with plenty of light look for one of the pins to have a failed solder joint. It will be very faint however the failed joint will be a fine dark line around the pin. To correct use a small soldering iron and reheat this solder until it wants to flow, let it cool and reassemble.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
PS: I have helped several persons with this issue, please review my profile; good luck with it (also often times with this issue the ABS light stays on)

Assuming the radiator is full of coolant, you are describing a faulty thermostat. The thermostat is closed when the engine is cold to restrict coolant flow until it warms up.

Abslight stays on no brake lights

Fuse 12 (10 Amps) may be burned out. Its located in "Junction Block". Losing
fuse 12 would kill the ABS systems and light the ABS dashboard light.

Fuse 11 (20 Amps) may be out. Its located in "Power Distribution Center". Losing fuse 11
would kill the brake lights, and light the ABS dashboard light. If fuse 11 is blown,
check your (3) brake light sockets for shorts of any type, or fuse 11 will just blow again.

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.
