1995 subaru electrical problem

My 1995 Subaru is having electrical problems and I am not sure what to test/replace first. The check battery and break lights came on a few days ago. Since the break was not engaged, I thought it was a fluke and drove the car anyway (the check engine light has been turning on and off erroneously for years). As I drove the car, the electrical power to the radio stopped working, and the headlights began to fade. The dashboard controls went wild. The car eventually came to a halt as I drove it home. The fuses look good from a quick inspection. What should I check next?

Well whadda ya know...I have the same vehicle, 1995 Subaru Legacy, with the exact same symptoms. The car will start just fine and won't exhibit any problems until I apply a load to the electrical system. When I step on the brake pedal, turn on the lights, or even the radio, there is a noticeable change in power supply. Turning on more than one accessory results in the ABS light coming on and the dashboard controls going haywire. In retrospect, I can turn off the accessories and the power returns (for the most part) until driven for a short period of time. The power eventually seems to go away, as if being drained right from the battery. I had the alternator tested, replaced and tested again. I also had the battery replaced. The battery and charging system were diagnosed at the shop and both were working perfectly. All fuses are fine. I'm not sure how to check the there could be a problem there. My next alternative is to check the chasis grounds...that's gonna be fun! Any assistance with this problem would prevent some premature balding. Looking forward to any tips. Thanks in advance!

Your alternator sounds like its gone. ask a battery shop to come and carbon pile load test the system. sorry to say but it sounds like alt is dead. cheap enough to fix though so all good.

1994 subaru legacy hesitates to start after first try then starts immediately i just recently replaced the battery

You may have a problem with your fuel pump or your fuel filters. This is usually caused by a lack of flow of fuel to the engine immediately when it has been sitting.

Also need to check your spark plugs for the spark and make sure there are no problems with lead wires to same.

I have a 1995 subaru legacy. battery looses charge. i tested the battery and it test good. i had alt checked on the bench tester and it passes bench test but will still not charge battery? could there...

Sounds like a bad Earth connection. Check all the battery and earth leads where they connect to the Battery, Engine, Starter Motor and Body. If possible disconnect, clean and reconnect.

My 1995 subaru legacy sometimes wont start. i have asked two mechanics and they both said it was the throttle body so i replaced it and the problem still occurs.

hello there is a problem with your crankshaft or camshaft posistion sensor. there is a technical service bulletin out from subaru on the sensors. Just gothe to the subaru dealer and get the new sensors and replace them. You car will work fine after that. Takes maybe five minutes to replace both sensors one is one the left side of the engine by the battery near the black timing belt case the other is in the center of the timing cover right above the crankshaft pulley

My subaru starts sometimes but others doesnt and when its doesnt it ticks over but then dies out i have took out the air filter but its not worked its like its runnign out of fuel but i have plenty fuel?.

If the battery is more than 5 yrs old, start there. If not you need to have the charging system tested. If ok you have to do a voltage drop test to make sure all connections are good.

1995 Subaru Legacy electrical nightmanre...PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Really sounds like you need to make sure all the ground wires body and motor are good. Sometimes a poor ground will do that. The electricity will try to find any thing that it can to return the circuit. I even had one time the ground was going through the shift cable. Which destroyed the cable after a while. Good luck and hope this helps.

Subaru check engine light

Under the steering column there are two clips, clip them together and your subaru is in diagnostic mode, turn your reds on and you will get a series of flashes, count the slow flashes, thats your first number then count the fast flashes and thats your second number so * * * * ***** would be fault code 45. Find the fault and fix it then disconect your battery and turn your lights on to drain the power from and reset your computer. disconnect the clips and connect battery and the check engine light should be off.

1995 Subaru Legacy will crank but won't run.

You can start by checking the fuel pump and testing it for current but it may also be in the starting system so check to see if the starting solenoid is working properly.

Electrical Problem with 1999 Subaru Legacy

hi there, your alternator is not putting out enough, subbies should put out about 14.4v and just after starting should put out 40-60amps. charge the batt that is in it now with a small (3.5-6amp) charger overnight then start the car and LOAD TEST the batt and alternator at a battery shop. ask them to put a carbon pile load tester on your system. im pretty sure they're gonna tell you its the alternator. many thanks, hope this helps!
