Remove the facia panel in your dash (gently with the plate edge of a screw driver) - then remove radio. Write down the s/n and then phone the agent (probably Philips). They don't make car radios any more but they have maintained a series of people who can provide you with the unlock code. When it happened with me - there was no charge and the info was provided over the phone.  Also - some GM dealers have retained such info and can provide it to you if you ring them with your licence plate number. All the best.

The clock works, but the radio does not

Have you disconnected the battery recently and the radio needs a code? If you have, post the model and any serial numbers and somebody may help with the code number.

What are radio codes?

  • It an electronic security code for the radio that avoids radios being stolen from cars because then they will not work once power to them is disconnected due to either their removal, disconnection of the car battery or a flat car battery.
  • Once the radio has lost it's power source it cannot be operated until power is reconnected and the code is punched into the radio using the radio controls. The code for each radio is different and is supplied with the car when new. If you do not have the code you need to contact the service department of the new car dealer that sells that brand of car who will likely charge you a fee to look it up for you if the records are still held.

The stero just say's "CODEE"how do a person fix

Your radio is locked out due to a dead or disconnected battery. This is part of the security system. It is designed to make your radio worthless to a thief if it is disconnected from your car battery. It is waiting for you to input the code to unlock it. If you do not know the code, you will have to take your car to the dealer. They can look up the code by your VIN.
Be sure to take picture ID and your proof of registration with you because they will not unlock the radio for anyone except the registered owner. (At least, they're not supposed to.)

Good day. I drive a 2007 City Golf, I recently took my car in for its service. When i received the car back the radio was saying SAFE?? What does this mean? I Bought the car at a second hand car dealer and...

the radio anti theft system is operated when, for any reason, the power is turned off/disconnected,(safe mode)in some markets, the dealers do not keep the factory code (0000) OR the code inputed by the owner...SO, if anybody turns the power off(disconnects)the radio DIES....and garages will then charge you to "repair" it.
the garage would have known this but i cant see them offering to pay for disconnecting your battery.....
the only alternative is a specialist radio shop who may be able to
short the code out..in england the company is "radioactive" and they charge £15.00 at your house.....

I'm guessing that you disconnected the battery recently! but if you contact your dealer they can pull the code for you, you may have to take it to them so they can connect the scan tool and get the code that way!
