This is called "limp mode" which means to "limp" home. Chryslers default to limp mode when there is a problem with a speed sensor, body control module or other sensor

scan the computer and see what it says

I sometimes remove a bettery terminal leave disconnected for a few minutes and this resets the computer and clears codes

better to scan though and clear and see if it helps

I have a 1998 Plymouth grand voyager. Code came up on the reader -"P1698 no ccd/j1850 message from tcm/PCM" the speedometer isn't working and it seems to be stuck in 2nd gear. The check engine light is on....

You need a professional to work on it

Test the battery,it may have failed
Check the cables

You have an ECM no CCD message from
the TCM Module

Beyond anything you can do, but use the vehicle
& ruin the transaxle

SPEEDOMETER JUST QUIT. I REPLACED BOTH INPUT & OUTPUT SENSORS. I WAS TOLD THAT IF ONE OF THE SPEEDOMETER SENSORS GO OUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. MY ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. NOW I'M WORRIED.

The same happened on my Chrysler voyager just quit you have to reset it that was all it was on mine. I think my husband held the button in on the speedo/milage counter until you have lots of lights come up on your dash board it looks very pretty. This should reset your speedometer it did mine. Good luck

Check engine light came on speedometer quit

Hi. You need to replace your speedometer cable since there is a trigger from the cable going to engine. Check engine light will be gone once you replaced the cable.

Have a good one!

P0500, intermittant speedometer, after sitting 6 months

Sounds speedmeeter is going haywire. Like everything in today's automobiles they are made with plastic gears. Some can be unscrewed under the stearing wheel others are not. The problem with the brake light break pads were probably stuck.I would say that your speedometer is not removable to many people disconnecting them for low milage on vehicle when trading or selling.

No speed control sensor on your vehicle. What is the reason u with to replace it? Speedometer not working? Vehicle not shifting?
