I have 2000 323CI and my keyless entry won't work. When I press the buttons, nothing happens. the fuel door locks when the door is manually locked. The doors will lock when manually locked but not when the keyless entry remote is pressed.

- It's not that. the remote battery recharges everytime the key is used to start the car.

- It's the new key that is triangular shaped. I tried to reprogram the key and thought maybe the key died. I ordered a key key from BMW and that's how I found out that the key recharges itself and that there was something else wrong because the new key didn't work after the dealership programmed it.
-   I just purchased a 1999 323i 5 door and was given only one key. the remote won't work. I went to Halfords to purchase a replace battery but they said that if I insert it incorrectly I could immobilise the car! As I haven't even got a handbook or spare key for this car, I'm afraid to risk that. I'm not sure wether to purchase a new key from a bmw dealer (at great expense I suspect) or just put up with opening it manually, any advise?-   aliblake1956

(This is for the 96+ alarms)
Straight out of the book:
Preparation 1. Close all doors, trunk, and hood. 2. The security system must be in 'disarm' mode. The key must be removed from the ignition key slot.
Enter Code-Learning Mode 3. Open the trunk and leave it open 4. Open the driver's door and sit in the driver's seat. 5. Close the driver's door. 6. Cycle the ignition switch five times between the 'OFF' position and position 2, (ignition 'ON', all dash warning lamps will illuminate). The red status LED will illuminate continuously, and the siren will 'chirp' once, to indicate that the code-learning mode has been initated.
Do not start the engine. The ignition switch cycling in step #6 must be preformed within 45 seconds.
Register/Delete ID Code(s) 7. Open the driver's door, (remain seated in driver's seat). 8. Close driver's door. 9. Press and release any button on the remote you wish to register into the system. The status LED will shut off momentarily to indicate that one ID code has been registered. 10. Repeat steps 7 through 9 to register the remaining three ID codes.
It is possible for the system to memorize a total of four different ID codes. As a new code is initalized into memory, the oldest code in memory is automattically deleted. If you had lost your remotes and wished to delete the lost remote ID codes from memory, you could initialize the ID code from a newly purchased replacement transmitter four times thereby deleteing the previous ID codes from system memory.
Exiting Code-Learning mode 11. Open driver's door, and exit from vehicle, leaving the door open. 12. Close trunk. 13. Close driver's door. The LED will turn off and the siren will 'chirp' twice. 14. The initalization procedure is now completed; test all remotes to confirm operation.
I have a 1999 BMW E46 I have had a problem with the keyless entry myself. I brought the car to BMW Dealer and they told me that my Lock had an issue and that they need to repair some wiring wich would cost me $1,023.98 to find out that it was a fuse that burned out. I have replaced the 5 amp fuse with another one but it burned the fuse again so I put a 10 amp fuse and i have not had a problems since. In my car is fuse # 54 if Im not mistaken. But waht you can do is open the fuse box which is located in your glove compartment look for a diagram that shows you which fuse is where it will give you a fuse name a number where the fuse is located and how many amps fuse it is.
you need to reprogram your remotcontrol by doing this
1, turne the ignation on and trun it off
2, prassed and hold the unlock botten and prasse 3 time the open botton
3, relesed all botten then the door well open and closed normal
