1984 chevy 1500 driver side brake and signal light not working. Parking light works but is too bright. volt metre shows a ticking the same readings as the passenger side until a bulb is inserted then shows nothing. recently problem got worse. signal light indicator on dash for right hand signal stays on when lights are turned on and brake lights and signals don't work at all. was going back to normal after a drive down the road but now stays like that. -Other things that might be helpful- Replaced passenger side taillight socket within the year Replaced driver side socket when current problem started Appears to be an exposed wire on the signal switch itself ... Would be nice to know where a good place to start is... I don't want to open up the steering column until ive used all other options because i don't know how to open i it easily

take it to a body shop

those lamps have 2 filaments and one of them (the lower brightness one) is burnt out and the brighter one (brakes and blinker) still works. you need to replace that lamp

Turn signal tail lights and BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its blown brake light bulb. First check and confirm brake light lamp is working and that's not the case.

Yes I would look for a ground circuit problem. I would look at the ground wires for the headlights first. Even run a new ground wire for the tail lights to see if it helps.
Could be a ground connection for the body to frame or body to battery.

I had an issue like this one on a 2007 Colorado. I assume you mean the turn signal indicator inside the truck lights up. It was a bad bulb. think it was the turn signal bulb on the side that is lighting up. As for the gear indication being dim there is more than one bulb that lights them up and one may have blown. I hope this helps.

sounds like a bad turn signal switch . both side brake lights run through it but the third brake l;ight runs direct from the brake light switch .- play with the hazard button a few times and if the start working you need the turn signal switch

Right off the bat, I don't think you'll ever find a wiring diagram for taillights on two completely different makes of vehicles.

Best suggestion is to get a 12 volt test light and one by one check the wires going to the rear of you vehicle. Start by turning the parking lights on and then probing all the wires (one at a time) to see where voltage is present. Make a list of the colors of the wires associated with a particular action. Do the same for brake light, back up lights, and turn signals (both left and right).

Once you have established this base of info, start touching a wire (say, the left turn signal) to wires in your taillight assembly until you get the desired reaction in the Chevy taillight. Again, make a note of what combination of wires produces what result. Be patient and you can work your way thru this and get it to all function the way you want.

Sounds like the turn signal flasher module has gone bad. It controls the brake lights and turn signals. It is located under the drivers side of the dash. If is a rectangular black box with a grey connector and 8 or so wires connected to it.
