My 2001 Aztek just got totaled from the rear. Really wanted another, so found a 2002 and bought (descent deal) knowing that the ABS and traction control light comes on periodically. The used car business has their own shop and when put on the hand held diagnostic it shows no history of a fault..., so they do not know what to do next. Seems to be intermittant. They stay out for long periods, but when come on, I can stop, turn off the car and restart, and the lights stay out. At least till next time they decide to come on. Sometimes it comes on during startup and doesnt go out like its supposed to. Then turning the car off and on, its ok some times. They said they had put new brake pads all around (front discs and rear drums). And I am sure the poer cleaned the engine compartment as usual. I did push on all the connectors I could find/see connected to the brake system. Without taking off the tires yet, the wire lume goes into the rear backing plate, I guess to a sensor. And the front goes to a connector hung outside of the brake assembly with the wires going into that assembly. Cant see sensors at right now. Could one of these be mis positioned or dirty? Otherwise I will take it to the Pontiac dealer, was wondering if this is enough information for a good guess--worried about cost/proper/timely diagnosis without replacing part after part if there is no code showing up. Although the Pontiac dealers probably are more experienced and have more testing equipment. Your thoughts greatly appreciated, Carl

How do I reset the computer on my 2005 Pontiac Aztec

Better to do that with a high end scan tool. You can't do it by disconnecting the battery overnight, but that can cause all sort of new problems. Where you say your speedometer 'sets' at 55mph, do you mean always stays at 55 even stopped, or do you mean if 'sits' at 55 even if you are doing 110?

The most likely cause of all this the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

2001 Pontiac aztek cruise control stopped working along with the ABS

Cruise control fuse # 31 10amp located in the under hood fuse / relay box an HZDFL fuse # 40 15amp located in the center console fuse box . If you pull the plastic side panel off of the right side of the console there is a fuse box inside . If the fuse are good the control module could be bad . Could also be turned off because the ABS has a problem .
DTC P1554 - do you know what a diagnostic trouble code is ?

The powertrain control module (PCM) has the ability to inhibit cruise control operation if conditions exist that would make cruise operation undesirable. The following conditions may inhibit cruise control operation:
• The engine speed is too high or too low.
• The vehicle speed is too high or too low.
• The traction control has been active for longer than 1 second.
• The vehicle acceleration or deceleration rate is too high

If the ABS light is on ,there are DTC'S stored in the system . Your best bet , take it to a GM dealer or someother qualified repair shop.

What would cause traction active light come on

i have had this problem since about 6 months after i bought my 2001 impala. the problem is in the hubs. the wireing that runs throw them rubs together and eventually shorts the traction and abs. easy solution to fix it though. get into the hubs and wrap the wires. otherwise take the car in and explain the problem to them and exactly what you need done. 9-10 times they won't fix the problem unless you tell them what you want done. it is really simple and going to the dealer should only cost you about 100 to fix.

Idito light on dash for brakes and traction control are coming on intermittently

Try taking it to Autozone or O'reillys and ask if they can scan the ABS computer. It is a separate plug and different than the motor computer.
You probably have a loose piece of brake material in the rear brakes. The warnings have really worked although I have looked at some bad brakes and do not know how the car can figure it out. The traction control is lighting up because both rear wheels are not turning freely with the brake problem.

Most likely you will need rear brake work soon.
