Question about 1996 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

My car just died. It is not the battery. It is working fine. I did drive through massive puddles last night. This morning my car worked just fine running errands, but then driving home it just died and I can't get it started. What is wrong?

Could be the alternator. take a voltage meeter out and check your battery. battery by it's self should be about 12-13 volts. and if you manage to start the car even if you jump it. reaD IT AGIAN. WITH A WORKING ALTERNATOR YOU SHOULD BE AROUND 14 BUT NO LESS than 13. the ford engine is some what up side down and the alternator if on the bottom. good luck!

Just because you charged the battery it doesn't mean it is any good. Modern sealed batteries fail; just as you described, fine one moment and then nothing, they go open internally.

You may have a dying cell in the battery. It will charge and seem OK but won't stay charged for long. Try a load test of the battery

Does not seem that there is any electrical current. Checked all the fuses, they are fine. It doesn't seem like a battery problem as there is absolutely no current. Drove it last night everything worked. ...

Is the battery dead? Your alternator may be bad. If you drove it last night you may have driven on battery power and not realized it. You should have gotten some kind of warning message. Need to know if the battery is dead.

99 Sunfire Coolant keeps dumping

You need to find the source of the leak. it hasn't overheated yet because you keep catching it and re-filling. From your description, it sounds a lot like a bad water pump seal (part of pump) but without physically looking you can't be sure of that. when the pump seal begins to fail, internal pressure while running often will drive the seal tighter against the shaft stopping the leak. as pressure drops as the engine cools, the seal relaxes and permits seepage.
With time, that will change and it will leak all the time.

Water?

The Cap and wires are most likely still wet (must have been a really large puddle). You can open the hood and try to air dry them or get a can of starting fluid and spray the cap and wires to dispel the water. Let the fluid evaporate and try to start the car. Best of luck.
