I have a water leak that I think is coming from the water pump. Is this a major repair job and very costly?

It can be a pain. Most water pumps are designed with something called a weep hole, which is a hole in the housing that is blocked by the bearing assembly. As the bearing wears, the hole is slowly uncovered, and when the bearing has worn to the point that it needs to be replaced, the weep hole is exposed and coolant can leak out - this is to tell you that the water pump is wearing out, and it forces you to change it before it fails and strands you, or worse, costs you an engine.

Shop rates vary widely, but since a water pump is usually replaced when a timing belt is done, you may want to step up and do that if you're anywhere near 60k miles (or a multiple of it, like 120k or 180k). If you have done the timing belt recently enough that it isn't a worry, you can have just the water pump and the belt that drives it replaced. Probably with parts and labor you'd be looking at $200-300 but I'd shop around for prices and reputation before turning over your car for this job, as it's not a small job. It's not a gigantic project, but it's not a tiny one either.

Need to replace water pump in 2005 Kia Sedona!

I think you mean they pressure tested the cooling system and found the pump to be leaking.
You can check with the auto parts stores online for repair info. They also sell the repair manuals.
If the pump is driven by the timing belt it can be a major job to get everything back in place.

Have an antifreeze leak but not sure where its leaking from, doesn't seem to be hoses or radiator; car leaking under what i think might be the water pump

Yep that a one that will let the job down - the seal can go - what age and has the mix been kept with glycol and inhibitor as water will erode material.
Hard to see where water is comeing from as it leaks from around the shaft behind the pully.
Quite an easy fix which is no real emergency so long as you keep topping up radiator.
Check out replacement or recon existing, the price of some water pumps new replacement makes time and parts spent on repair far too expensive.
On the larger older diesels i have experiece of - the water pump would go whilst working in the day then cause bearing failure which would allow the fan blade to carve up the radiator.
Cost then would escalate, radiator, fan blades, water pump and if you were really unlucky some of the surrounding bits. All good fun

Good luck Owen

2000 3.3 auto grand voyager. got a major coolant leak, to the extent that you can see it weep. Been to Chrysler garage, who said a little is coming from water pump (£275 to replace), but most is...

It must be leaking from under the valve cover. The time for rear valve cover gasket replacement is 2.5hrs and 3hrs for both front and rear, I would replace both at the same time and the gasket. Its advisable to get it done by technician if the coolant is leaking as the coolant is leaking from under the valve cover. Its $300 for parts and services (timing gasket $40, valve cover gasket $140, oil pan gasket set $70, and coolant flush for $50) . ''the timing cover is leaking coolant''--engines water pump is behind the cover and it is failing-. as far as parts and labor it sounds reasonable and it all sounds pretty typical for your vehicle. But still get it confirmed by any other tech before getting it repaired. To confirm the estimate cost. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

I have the same car and had same problem. Your water pump needs to be replaced. That is where the leak is. Not a major job nor that expensive. I recommend using the green 2-year coolant vs. the orange 5-year coolant. The 5 year coolant does not protect well against cavitation (exploding bubbles) which is what caused your water pump leak. (You can research this on the I-net). The standard 2-yr coolant does protect against cavitation.
