Question about 2001 Volkswagen Golf
The 'service now' light on the dash board came on.the vehicle has been serviced but the 'service now' light is still coming on. how do i have the light cancelled or reset
There's one more thing you can try. On a Mk4 VW, you can reset the service indicator by doing the following:
- With the ignition off, press and hold the tripmeter reset button (on the right side of the dash)
- Turn on your ignition, wait for all the warning lights to come on, then let go of the tripmeter button
- Where your trip distance is normally shown, the display will read "OIL".
- To reset the service interval, turn the clock adjust switch (left side) for about 5 seconds. The trip meter display will change to "---" indicating the code has been reset.
You can verify this by turning the car off and on again. Let me know if that worked out for you.

The correct procedure for determining the reason for a "Service Now" indicator is to attach the car's computer to an OBD scanner. The scanner will read the error logs/codes and determine the most probable area at fault.
Alternately, you can try to reset your car's computer by removing at least one of the battery terminals for about 10 minutes or so. Incidentally, this could also trigger security/alarm and immobilizer of the vehicle including the lock code for the stereo.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
