Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

5 Answers

02 Lancer ES

When put into reverse, the car kicks back ( or jerks ). Also seems like it takes a little bit for the car to get up to speed as if the gears are off. My car has a transmission code error but when it got checked out, the techs said it could be a wiring problem. I couldn't go through with the repair due to the lack of money. What could be the problem, and an estimate please.

Also i swear i have to fill up gas 3 times a week...ill drive 40 miles then back and about a quarter of my tank is gone. Is this normal?

Thanks

Apparently this is a common problem I have had this problem. If you hook up a code scanner to the car (AutoZone does it for free) you will get a code that says input (or output) turbine sensor malfunction/failure. This is a failure of the input (or output) sensor. It causes the tranny to go into "FAIL SAFE" mode which is generally 3rd gear and it locks in that gear. Therefore causing the horrible gas mileage/lack of power. I took mine to a Aamco Transmission they cost about 150.00 including labor. The part is only avalible through the OEM. If you can't afford the repair the car resets itself with a power off and on. Just turn the car off wait 30 secs and then turn on and It will allow you to drive normally until the issue is detected again. If the Sensor is toast it will stay locked in 3rd until it is fixed. It is not recommened that you continue to drive stuck in 3rd as it will prematurely burn the tranny out. Also If your mechanic could not figure that out it is time for a new mechanic. Hope this helps.

Hey well i had the same problem before. it did the same speed. when you went on the freeway did it feel like it did not have a lot of power and you press on the gas a lot to get it up to speed. well in my case it did have something to do with the transmission. the transmission has 2 sensors mine was the input sensor. it cost close to 150. at the dealer. check to see if that is it. by the way if you open it they wont give you a refund. that is what they told me so you have to make sure that is your problem.

Well first! maybe it's time to remind you were created and given in life by a GOD, TRY TO BEGIN TO MAKE CONTACT WITH HIM, know that he is THE ONE who decides if you live another day, it was not yourself did you? Remind it! Make contact with him everyday anyhow. This way maybe he gets glad about and give us more money for our needings. The thing about the gas how many cylinders is your car? and almost for shure it is some transmission detail. That the LordGOD bless you my brother.

Going about 20 mph rpms will jump it acts like it is in neutral its an 02 mitsubshi lancer es with about 154000 miles its done this same thing just at a higher speed it would do this then it quit doing it...

Have the transmission seviced. check the condition of the old fluid. if it smells burnt you may need ferther repairs, but try just having it serviced or flushed first you may be able to save yourself a very expensive repair.

Mitsubishi Lancer ES '02 - Rattling noise in 1st gear...

I think you might need to ask someone to throttle up the car and you look underneath to try locating the rattling noise. Don't forget that this model runs the exaust pipe in front of the motor so it might be an exaust rattle as well??
Cheers
