1990 Toyota Camry Check Engine light problem.

The CEL means that the car's computer has detected an error in one of the car's systems. For cars of model years 1996 and later there is a standard connector in the car and you can hook up an OBD-2 code scanner to read the error code from the car's computer. However, for cars sold before 1996, there is no standard, so your best bet is to take the car to a mechanic who has experience with your make and model.

One thing you can try, to turn the light off, is disconnect your car's battery terminals for a few minutes. The CEL should be off when you restart the car. If the CEL stays off, then you're ok, because it may have come on due to a temporary condition somehow related to your parking brake, and the condition is resolved. However, if the CEL stays on or comes back on, this means you have a "hard" error code that definitely needs to be checked out.

In my opinion, although it is possible that the CEL and the parking brake are related, most likely it is just a coincidence that the CEL came on shortly afterward, and there is another cause for the CEL, that should be investigated.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

1997 Mazda 626 (2.0 liter): The check engine or malfunction light came on and will not go off. Since this light came on, the heater/defrost will not blow warm air. Temp guage shows hot after car has been...

sounds like the head or head gasket is blown. your cylinders may be getting coolant in them which will not only cause the motor to lockup, but also cause bent rods and valves. check your oil dipstick and transmission dipstick to see if it looks like water or coolant is presant, also check the coolant to see if it smells like gas or has any kind of oil in it, if so, your head is likely blown.

No driving lights?

Hello there - I would suggest checking the fuse for your lights in the fuse box, and check under the hood for a fuse/relay box, and have the relay tested. If the fuses and relays are good, open the hood, and try to check the connection to the headlights and make sure they are securely connected. You also mentioned that when you push the headlights switch forward for brights, and turn on the night time head lights, and neither come on but the daytime lights do, makes me suspect the switch itself may be bad. I would first check the fuses and relays if any. Second, I would replace the bulbs (if replacable). Other than that, my last guess would be an electrical problem in the wiring somewhere. I hope this information helps you fix your lights. Thank you for your time and consideration in my suggestions/answers.
