I REPLACED IGNITION MODULE AND COIL, STILL NO FIRE. I CANT CONFIRM FUEL IS WORKING EITHER. IF FUEL PUMP IS NOT WORKING, WILL THE ELECTRONICS NOT LET IT FIRE ????

  • GREENPONDMS Aug 13, 2008

WE NOW HAVE FIRE ALL THE WAY TO THE PLUGS. WE DO NOT HAVE FUEL. THE SHUTOFF IN THE FLOOR DOES NOT HAVE POWER. I PUT A LITTLE GAS DOWN THE BREATHER, AND IT STARTED FOR A FEW SECONDS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WE ARE GETTING CLOSER. THANKS ALOT.

ok great in the meantime until I call tomorrow, try to disconnect one of the fuel injector connectors that are easy to get to, take a 12V test light and check to see that you have battery power with the key ON on one side of the disconnected connector, If so great, Now take a paperclip or whtever to make a connection for the other side of the same connector clip th alligator clip of the test light to that side and the tip of the test light to the other side

Crank the engine over and hope the light blinks if it does thats great be sure not ot allow thetw terminls to touch at any time during this ok thanks for trusting me here Im with you till it runs.

make sure the fuel pump shut off switch is not tripped it should be located under the heater ,under the carpet on passenger side foot well or on passenger side kick panel make sure it has power in and out 2 seconds only after turning on the key then its gone.

Listen at the tank for a 2 second BUZZ remember only 2 seconds or you could do a guel pressure test with a guage needs to be 43 PSI or more

Ken, the EEC relay is behind the passenger kick panel you know right next to the passengers right foot behind the plastic panel, Pop off that panel, The EEC relay will have Four (4) terminals, the Power comes in on the YELLOW WIRES WHICH ARE FED THROUGH A FUSE LINK

    a Red/light green

    A Dark Blue

    A Black/light green

Make sure the YELLOW wires have full battery power If not we gotta find the Fuse Link

If you have power there Get another Relay from a wrecking yard because they are usually only available from the Dealer I believe this is the source of your Problems and the truck should start normally with the little connector in.

Didd u get my last post about the EEC Relay ?

  • Randy Harkins

WEll check to make sure you have power on the yellow wires going into the EEC Relay and then make sure you have power coming out of the EEC relay on one or more wires they should be no more that $5 -$10 at a wrecking yard if that.

I have a 1987 ford ranger the engine turns over but it wont start

Spark at plugs? Fuel filter? Pressure on injector delivery line? Pressure relief valve? You may be able to measure fuel pressure at the pressure relief valve location. and return line. If you have spark, I'd say it's a fuel supply problem

Red max eb7001 has new coil, gapped right still no spark. im going crazy

1) The primary circuit: is battery, cap, resistor, capacitor, switch ignition+secondary circuit spark plug, distributor, high tension wires+spark plug.
the mayor problem arise in the coil and distributor, And the most common problem INCORRECT Choice de spark plugs or improperly gapped.
Rememeber the coil send 20,000-30,000 Vdc for spark plug.
Test with a screwdriver , pull out the center wire from the distributor cap and hold 3/8inch from a good ground. Crack the engine, if there no spark, or the spark is weak, the coil is defective or the high tension wires.
2) Bypass by a moment the baas resistor with a jumper wire while cranking engine If the engine starts, replace the ballast resistor.

God bless you.

I have a 1987 ford ranger with a 2.9 liter I pulled it in the shop to change the plugs and now it won't start its got spark from the coil but not to the plug wires

It could be a bad cap or rotor or possibly the distributor not turning. Pull the cap off and see if the rotor spins when the vehicle is being cranked.

1987 Ford Ranger that sparks but wont' start

try to replace the coil and all the spark plugs also make sure that the plugs are gapped right. that info will be on the evaporation sticker onthe core support in the front of the truck under hood. I think it is 0.004 not 100% sure on that. I hope that helps
