Sounds to me it could be your turn signal switch. I believe it is located in your steering column. If you are mechanically inclinedyou should be able to repair yourself. Please get a repair maual first because there are some safty issues an tools needed. You could save a few bucks buy checking out a chiltons manual at your library. I have done a couple before as a novice with no problems its not easy and be carefull if you have an airbag because you must remoe the right fuse. remove the ground wire off the battery and disconnect the proper lead off the wiring harness at the floorborad at the base of the steering wheel first

Check all your ground points. The brake lights and cruise may be grounded to the same spot. Re-check the cruise fuse and brake/tail light fuses.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. Have tail lites but no brake lites. Third lite on top works whet brakes applied

Since the high mounted brake light works you know that the brake light switch is working. Now you need to check the brake light bulbs in the rear tail light assemblies. The brake lights are separate from the tail light (parking or running lights). There are two screws that hold the rear light assemblies in place.

Check your brake light switch located under the dash on the top of your brake pedal, also it could be a broken tail or brake lite bulb.

check the fuses and relays under the hood next to the battery. if they still dont work it might be in the wiring or if it has a tow package it might be in the trailer wiring

Tail light out replaced both brake & tail lite bulbs nothing

It sounds like your brake light switch is out.  It's located on the brake pedal and is relatively easy and cheap to replace.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
