Question about 2007 Toyota Avalon

No dash lights. transmission is locked in park

    My Avalon 2000 model, when i am driving at night, My dash board cant come on any time i switch the instrument panel lights on. I have checked all fuses in the box and they are all in order.Please tell me what could be responsible.

My Toyota Avalon 2000 model dash board lights has refuse to come on when i am driving at night. I have checked the fuse box and every fuses are ok. What could be responsible.

20% of the time I cant get key to lock into the lock position, dash lights go out,BUT ignition circuit is left on,its like trying to remove key,w car Not in park.Could it be the neutral safety switch?


No , it's not the park neutral switch , The park neutarl switch won't allow the vehicle to start if not in park or neutal , has nothing to do with turning off the vehicle . Problem with the shift lock contro system probably !
Park Lock Control System (Regal)
The park lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the ignition is OFF. The system consists of the following components:
• The automatic transmission park lock solenoid
• The brake to shift relay
• The body control module (BCM)
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
With the ignition in the OFF position the park lock control solenoid is de-energized. This mechanically locks the shift lever in the PARK position. With the ignition in the ON position, battery voltage is supply to the park lock control solenoid. The control circuit of the park lock solenoid is provided a ground through the brake to shift relay when energized. The body control module (BCM) supplies a ground for the brake to shift relay when the body control module (BCM) receives a class 2 message from the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating the transmission is in the PARK position. This closes the normally open contacts of the brake to shift relay and grounds the park lock control solenoid. This energizes the park lock control solenoid releasing the mechanical park lock.

Sorry , but your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

This morning it started fine but will not come out of gear and my airbag light is on. Someone said it was the fuse but I am not sure which fuse. Any ideas ?


I am mechanic I really need to no more make ect. but it could be battery or the ignition switch or ignition lock n key but like I said need more information this is a guess that I told you

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the ignition is ON. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:

The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid.


?€¢
The automatic transmission shift lock control switch.


?€¢
The park/neutral position switch.

With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the park/neutral position switch. When the transmission is in the PARK position the contacts in the park/neutral position switch are closed. This allows current to flow through the switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid, locking the shift linkage in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, causing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid to release. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position.
Park Lock Solenoid
The park lock solenoid is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the key is in the OFF position. The key must be in the RUN position to release the park lock solenoid. The system consists of the park lock solenoid. With the ignition in the ON position, voltage is supplied to the park lock solenoid. The park lock solenoid energizes through a permanent ground unlocking the shift lever. With the ignition in the OFF or ACCY position the park lock solenoid de-energizes and locks the shift lever in the park position.
Shift Lever Does Not Move with Brake Pedal Depressed
DEFINITION: Transmission shift lever will not move out of the PARK position with the ignition ON and the brake pedal pressed.

Shifter is locked in park on a 2002 bravada that sayes on dash its in reverse


PRND321 Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC - instrument panel cluster receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRND321 display blanks if:

The ECM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM. The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:

The automatic transmission shift lock control switch

With the ignition in the ON position, voltage is supplied to automatic transmission shift lock control switch. Voltage flows through the normally closed contacts of the automatic transmission shift lock control switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid causing the transmission shift lever to be physically locked in the PARK position. The transmission range (TR) switch is part of the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch assembly, which is externally mounted on the transmission manual shaft. The TR switch contains four internal switches that indicate the transmission gear range selector lever position. The PCM supplies ignition voltage to each switch circuit. As the gear range selector lever is moved, the state of each switch may change, causing the circuit to open or close. An open circuit or switch indicates a high voltage signal. A closed circuit or switch indicates a low voltage signal. The PCM detects the selected gear range by deciphering the combination of the voltage signals. The PCM compares the actual voltage combination of the switch signals to a TR switch combination chart stored in memory.
You need a Tech2 scan tool to diagnose this problem ! possible range sensor !

How do I REPLACE SHIFT CABLE


rtm? no symptoms so i must guess, ill say , cant shift. and is not park lock out causing that.
want to read the manual or me to you.'?

it replaces like all cables do
detach both ends and remove it. if clamps seen those too.
what matters is adjustment is needed.

some have 2 cables, one to gear box and one to ignition switch.
Chapter 21, page 150 states
REMOVAL
(1) Shift transmission into Park.
(2) Remove shift lever bezel and necessary console
parts for access to shift lever assembly.
(3) Disconnect cable at shift lever and feed cable
through dash panel opening to underside of vehicle.
(4) Raise vehicle.
(5) Disengage cable eyelet at transmission shift
lever and pull cable adjuster out of mounting
bracket. Then remove old cable from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
(1) Route cable through hole in dash panel. Fully
seat cable grommet into dash panel.
(2) Place the auto transmission manual shift control
lever in "Park" detent (rearmost) position and
rotate prop shaft to ensure transmission is in park.
(3) Connect shift cable to shifter mechanism by
snapping cable retaining ears into shifter bracket
and press cable end fitting onto lever ball stud.
(4) Place the floor shifter lever in park position.
Ensure that the pawl is seated within the confines of
the adjustment gauge clip.
(5) Snap the cable into the transmission bracket so
the retaining ears are engaged and connect cable end
fitting onto the manual control lever ball stud.
(6) Lock shift cable into position by pushing
upward on the adjusting lock button.
(7) Remove and discard the shift cable adjustment
gauge clip from the park gate of the shifter.

Abs light on wont shift out of park

Why cant i move the gear lever out of park with the ignition switched on and the engine running ford escape 2008 v6


check brake light switch under dash at mid point on brake peddle arm it powers the brake lights and the transmission safety switch, when you push on brake it sends signal to transmission shift lock .

Transmission locked up in park


Turn the ignition on so the lights are all up on the dash dont start the vehicle. Put your foot on the brake pedal and make sure u can hear the shift lock click in and out with repeated brake pedal applications. If you cant hear it check the shift lock switch onder the dash on brake pedal. Might be built into the brake light switch check that they work also. I hope this helps

Gear shift moves but indicator doesn't change and transmission doesn't engage.


try disconnecting cable to transmission turn the shifter on transmission manually down there connect cable again start car try it if not try it again turn once then connect cable again then try it if not the transmission is not good
