Engine revs as I try to accelerate, sounds like i'm in neutral

It's been happening to me since I bought my car. As I attempt to accelerate at times, the engine will rev, just as it would if I were in neutral and I don't go any faster. Every dealer I would bring it to says there's nothing wrong with my transmission and it never does it for the mechanic. Does anybody else have this problem?

Yes I too have the same problem. If I take of from a dead stop it seem like the first couple of gear shifts are not going to happen but, the engine keeps reving up. When I go anywhere and pull in to park..when I put it in park I swear that the car is going to explode! It just keeps reving and reving up til I shut it down. My problem though has not and it seems that it is really not constant..on the other hand just two weeks ago it would barely idle at all. Evry stop I made I had to shift to nuetural so that it would'nt die on me. So I changed fuel filter and as soon as I started it up it was a back to the high rev problem. It has been in the shop for fuel pump problems a few times. I did notice though just the other day that the throttle cable had popped out of the bracket that holds it in place ..so as it reved up I put it back in place and then it wanted to die on me. So I popped it back out and, left it. Could not find any kinda adjust ment on the cable though..any one with further info would be appreciated.

Try to rev the engine while at neutral if you get the same vibration to pinpoint if its from the engine or the drive shafts. If the issue occurs at a certain rev it may likely be the variable valve unit. Check if possible if you can get errors from the computer.

Have your mechanic check the brake booster. I have had this problem one time before. the booster wasn't working correctly, small hole in the diaphram. it acted as if there was a large vacuum leak letting the engine rev up, but only when the brakes were applied.

My elantra is rough idling - chugging when I accelerate

I have experienced this. This seems to only happen when its cold out and you use the defrosters/AC. If thats the case then to fix/avoid this you can press the accelerator briefly (while in park/neutral) just to rev up the engine to about 2k or so, before you put it into gear.
