BMW X5 - warning lights when towing

I just picked up my new Baxley trailer and all the way home, the X5 gave me warning left and right trailer brake lights. The trailer lights are working fine. BMW here said they never heard of such a problem. Any ideas on where to start. Trailer uses a 4 pin - which I have. All my install, hitch and everything was done by BMW.

Thanks for any help

There is an electrical switch box that is supposed to be replaced when installing the tow hitch. Sounds like they may have skipped this

Abs brake warning light, bmw x5 2004

i would guess the brake warning light is the sensor telling you your pads are low. check the brake fluid and see what level it is, no need to add oil unless it is almost empty but then you would be hearing a squeek grinding noise from brakes. those only cost a few (i think $5) to replace when you do your brakes. but this is just a guess please make sure you have breaks before driving

Check brake linings light on in bmw x5 when i turn engine off and brake light is on

One of your wheel sensors has triggered - needs brakes OR sensor has come undone. Sensors are on left front and right rear calipers. Brake light is on = low fluid. Get your brakes checked

What would be the causes for brake lining study light to come on in a bmw x5 2005.

Study light? Do you mean warning light?
There are sensors clipped into the brake pads on the front left and rear right wheels. When the brake pads get very thin, those sensors rub on the brake rotors, and the light illuminates in the dash indicating that it is time to replace the brake pads.
The light can also illuminate if something damages the wire to the sensor. I usually replace my pads before they get down to the sensors, so I re-use my old sensors. Although the wires are fairly well secured to the suspension, after a few years, the wires can get chaffed from the wind blowing them around, and the damaged wire can turn on the warning light.

Trailer brake controller problem

I found the problem. Talking with a technician from the controller company, we determined that it was a fuse problem. I found that the fuse to the CHMSL was blown.
