Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

1996 Pontiac Grand Prix surging

The engine seems to be surging. The speed doesn't matter, sometimes 50 mph, sometimes 30mph. The odometer shows the rps are going crazy for a few seconds, then goes back to normal. Could it be the transmission modulator valve? I assume this has an electrical one, not like the older models.

NO the problem is in the ignition coil or the ignition module which is right under the coil pack

Speedometer surging. actual speed 40 mph,

Its a loose connection on the speedo cable. its a b*tch to get to. I had the same problem on my truck, it would fluctuate in 5th gear on the highway. i spent the money and had a professional do it.

I have a 2008 Pontiac Grand PRix that has the red MPH light on -on the dash. Is something wrong?

If it's anything like my 08' Grand Prix, then it's because you can switch the measurements between standard and metric. One of the settings on the "computer" (where the odometer is in the center of the dash) is to switch between standard and metric, which you can do on the fly - so if you do this, then a red KPH should appear on the opposite side of the speedometer from where the MPH light is.
