Question about 1997 Saab 900

Check Engine Light!

Okay I have a 1997 SAAB 900 SE 2.0 Turbo Talladega Edition and I recentely returned to Maine from Maryland. But before I left Maryland my check engine light came on. I looked at the temp on the temp gauge but it was right in the middle(not too hot or too cold) And nothing seemed to smell weird or act weird. So taking a big risk, I drove my car the 500+ miles to get from Maryland to Maine and the car did not do anything weird the whole time I drove. I have been home for a week now and the light is still but nothing is running weird still. So I was wondering if anyone had an idea of why my car is reading that something is wrong when nothing appears to be wrong????

My check engine light came on in my 97 SAAB 900 but the car seems fine also, what's up?

check engine light comes on for periods and then off for periods on saab 900 classic 1992.

Fuel Consumption and engine efficiency seem fine.

Found a burnt out rotor arm in the distributor yesterday but I don't see how this could be the problem.

    Any ideas?

I have same problem but I have come up with the solution........take out the bulb :-)........ seriously though took mine to garage...there is nothing wrong with the car...its just a sensor malfunction. but I live in Ireland and my car will fail an M.O.T if the is on. Mine has been on for over 12 months now .

I also have a 1997 Saab 900SE Talladega. It has 370 000 Kms and the check engine light has been on for the last year or so. It basically relates to the pressure in the fuel system (fault can be caused by a faulty sealing fuel cap or other air leaks) or the emission control system, faulty or dirty sensors (engine and muffler). Usually not a big deal..... let her shine! P.S. A New Air Filter, Oil Change, Fuel Filter and Spark Plugs are the cheapest maintenance you can do, this generally is the best preventative maintenance you can do. .... oh, by the way, my saab keep stalling at idle and misses under acceleration, usually only when warmed up and only intermittently.... any ideas?.... I should have investigated my check engine light sooner!!! haha.

Sounds like you will need to have the codes read at SAAB dealer to confirm no fautly sensors have caused this to happen.
There may still be a bad component that is triggering lamp.

I need an engine diagram for a 1995 saab 900 se V6

A SAAB dealer should be able to print one out for you. BTW that engine is practically identical to the V6 used in a caddy Catera, and Saturn Ion. Those diagrams would be the same, so you might want to search that also.

I don't know how to change the fog/driving lights on Saab 900 '97

It's a bit harder on the 97 if you have a Talladega model. Reaching won't work. You have to half drop the lip bolted to the bottom of the bumper (this is part of what makes it a talladega). You'll need 7, 8, 10 mm sockets, a torx driver, a little luck. A lift helps tremendously as there are only a couple inches to work between car and ground.

Drop the lip, then get in there and undo the bulb. Reverse

Engine light staying on

They may have disconnected a componet to change the fan, and that may be the problem, I would return and complain that the light was never on before and could they please check to see if anything was left disconnected. I saw this allot as a dealer tech, we never charged the customer to recheck our work.
