1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Water Pump Housing removal

How do I remove the housing the water pump connects to?  I think I have a leak there but am unsure what I need to remove to gain access.  Thanks.

I wish it was the pump. The housing itself is leaking and doesn't appear that Ford intended for it to be replaced. I have removed timing belt covers, AC compressor, water pump and numerous brackets and whatnot trying to figure how to get it off with no luck. Help would be appreciated. Mine is a 1999.

I am sure the leak is the water pump based on years of Escort work, The ZX2 is equipped with a 2.0L DOHC V-Tech engine. The water pump is on the front (rt side of car) of the engine block, visible with the hood up. NAPA autoparts replacement instructions are to loosen the belt drive pulley from the pump BEFORE removing the serpentine belt. Once the four bolts are loose, take the belt off (good time to replace?) remove bolts and old water pump (four more bolts)- it will be tight, but it comes out- clean gasket area and install new gasket and pump in reverse order. That includes putting the pulley on and hand tightening the bolts, put on the belt, finish tightening the bolts to the pulley.

Remove passenger fr tire, while supported remove splash shield, remove water pump pulley, remove pump and squeeeze out the bottom......install in reverse tools are 13mm for belt tensioner and a 10mm for the pulley and 8mm for the pump. there are no hose on a zetec 2.0l motor so it may take you a minute to realize witch one the water pump is it is up and right of the crankshaft main pully.

Water pump

To remove water pump loosen serpentine belt with a 3/8 breaker bar and set out of the way remove the 4 nuts on the pump housing and the 3 bracket bolts along with the upper and lower radiator hoses the small heater hose. The lower nuts can be reached thru the wheel well. Remove the allen bolts that hold the pump in the housing clean gasket area and replace. You may need to double nut a couple of the housing studs and remove for room on the housing

1998 cadillac deville: I have replaced the water pump, thermostat and all gaskets. It looks like water is leaking between water pump housing and block. Any sugestions or advise on repairing?

If your sure the seal on the water pump is good, I would suggest go to the auto parts store and buying a new water pump gasket. Sorry to tell you this, but take the pump off again. When you have removed the pump, scrape and clean both the engine block at the pump housing, and the pump back to shiny metal( this happened to me a couple of years ago, rushed the job, and gasket was not properly seated). Now that both are clean, put a thin coat of gasket sealant on the pump, and put the gasket on. Apply some sealant to the block housing.Put two bolts(across from each other) in the pump housing before installing(to keep the gasket lined up) and reinstall the pump. Give it a couple of hours for the sealant to set up, then give it a try. don't forget to top the fluids. I think you just pinched the gasket( happens all the time), and is giving the fluid a gap to leak. try this, and let me know
