Key is stuck in ignition in run position. Manual release does not work. I had to remove ignition fuse to shut the car off. How can I remove the key and is the problem the lock cylinder or the cheap, plastic micro switch pin in the shifter assembly? Thanks

No power to my gmc and now the key wont come out of the ignition?

It has to have power to remove the key. Jump it with another battery or charger. If you have power from the battery and no power to the inside. Check main fuses under the hood. If those are good, put power to the cigarette light, This will get the key out. Most likely have to replace the under hood fuse panel.

I have 98 grand prix ignition is stuck in start had to pull fuel pump fuse but cant shut car off lights are still on

Suggest disconecting the battery. Then you can work on the problem. it is not clear if the issue is the key stuck in the start position in the iginition switch or if the starter motor is stuck (running) after the car starts. If it the starter motor is running... Time for a new starter. If it is the ignition switch, try
pushing the key in and turning back off. Still stuck? Try pulling pn the key and turning off. Either way, if it is the key, yime for a new ignition switch.

How can I get key out which is stuck in ignition of 2008 cobalt. It also won't start

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Car in park, could not turn off car, key stuck in ignition in "on" position. Had to pull fuel fuse to turn off car. Key still stuck. Heard problem might be in gear shifter - plastic piece...

Problem is most likely park shift interlock. This has to do with shifter. The vehicle don't know it is in park and will not allow shut off or key remove. Need to take vehicle to a repair shop and have fixed.

Key is stuck in ignition and will not turn to off. Pulling battery cables off did not work , car continued to run. Tried pulling off center spark wire for cable car continued to run. Tried the release...

since it is stuck in the on position you should be able to change the ignition lock with the key in. it is not very expensive and fairly easy to do. you should be able to purchase at just about any auto parts store.

How to get key out that is stuck in ignition

Remove steering column shroud(cover)and tap ignition barrel with small hammer while twisting key backwards and forwards, also turn steering wheel backwards and forwards sometimes this is enough to release key as the locking pins in barrel and the steering lock pin do sometimes jam.You will have to remove steering column shroud to replace ignition barrel if tapping/hitting it doesnt work anyway so its not a wasted effort.Good luck, let me know how it works out
