Replacing alternator on 2005 chevy trailblazer

dvanvught obviously has never seen where the alternator is on a trailblazer ... what a tard. I am currently trying to replace my alternator and am finding that I have to take all kinds of **** out to get to it. I can't imagine how much a dealer would charge in labor for one of these things. Cars are built now to make it impossible for a consumer to work on it ... and it SUCKS! When a damn headlight bulb goes out the freakin owners manual tells you to take it in ... freakin ridiculous.

I have a 2002 Trailblazer and for the last 10 months something is draining my battery every night, 4 batteries later, a starter, and a couple of different relays its not fixed. Yesterday we tried to change the alternator ourselves but we can't figure out how to get it out of that small space. Plus the bolt on the bottom of the alternator is some odd size and can't seem to get it off. My question is .... is it possible to even get this out ourselves or is a large labour repair bill in my future especially if I'm not sure this will solve my problems.

Unbolt it, take it out, put new one in. Remember to put bolts back and tighten!

If you unhooked battery it will need to relearn its idle position, should help if you clean throttle blade edge and body of carbon so proper amount of idle air can enter engine.

SOURCE: 2005 Trailblazer Ext: how doi fix a gas gauge on my chevy trailblazer 20...

Common problem on the 03-06 Trailblazer instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. Check out this blog post about the problem - Trailblazer fuel gauge problems

SOURCE: where is the thermostat located on my 2005 chevy

You didn't mention what size engine you had. I am going to go with the most common engine and that would be the 4.2 liter engine. If this is your engine then the location of the thermostat is in the housing that the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. Just follow the lower hose and you will find the housing. Now you can't just buy a thermostat for it. The thing comes as a whole assembly housing and all and you can find it at your local auto parts store for about 25 dollars. Below is a picture of its location for you. The bottom bolt is not a problem to get off. The top one is another story and you have to get at it with a wrench and turn it a little at a time because you don't have much room to turn it. A little pointer is to do the top one first. trust me on this. Also when putting the O-ring which is the gasket for it you will need to use a VERY little bit of RTV to help hold it in place on the new housing when installing because it will fall out. remember to only use a little bit, just enough to hold it in place. If you use to much RTV it will leak. I hope this helps and is the engine you have and good luck.

Are there 2 different coolant senors in a 2005 chevy trailblazer

Not for the I6 engine. The one is located 2" above the thermostat.....bottom of engine behind the drivers side tire. PITA to do, need to remove the alternator and bracket to access it.

I had the same problem with my 2005 Trailblazer, thought it was the alternator so replaced it and it was still making that sound. It ended up being a $25 idler pully which took about 15min to change.
