Replacing alternator on 2005 chevy trailblazer

    dvanvught obviously has never seen where the alternator is on a trailblazer ... what a tard. I am currently trying to replace my alternator and am finding that I have to take all kinds of **** out to get to it. I can't imagine how much a dealer would charge in labor for one of these things. Cars are built now to make it impossible for a consumer to work on it ... and it SUCKS! When a damn headlight bulb goes out the freakin owners manual tells you to take it in ... freakin ridiculous.

    I have a 2002 Trailblazer and for the last 10 months something is draining my battery every night, 4 batteries later, a starter, and a couple of different relays its not fixed. Yesterday we tried to change the alternator ourselves but we can't figure out how to get it out of that small space. Plus the bolt on the bottom of the alternator is some odd size and can't seem to get it off. My question is .... is it possible to even get this out ourselves or is a large labour repair bill in my future especially if I'm not sure this will solve my problems.

Unbolt it, take it out, put new one in. Remember to put bolts back and tighten!

If you unhooked battery it will need to relearn its idle position, should help if you clean throttle blade edge and body of carbon so proper amount of idle air can enter engine.

if there are no slots for a tool to fit in, then you should be able to retract then with a C-clamp

could be a problem with the cables ,check they are connected and you have a 12v supply on the big thick cable from the battery to alternator as some vehicles have a fuse in this line and iam not familar with american vehicles sorry ,if you have power then renew the alternator complete unit prefferably with a bosch factory rebuilt unit if available in your area or country

Not for the I6 engine. The one is located 2" above the thermostat.....bottom of engine behind the drivers side tire. PITA to do, need to remove the alternator and bracket to access it.

My 2005 trailblazer makes a winding sound when i am on the accelarator. when i let of the gas it doesnt make the sound at all but when i am on the gas the faster i go the louder it gets. What could this...


I had the same problem with my 2005 Trailblazer, thought it was the alternator so replaced it and it was still making that sound. It ended up being a $25 idler pully which took about 15min to change.

Engine Coolant sensor


Driver side engine block behind the alternator.You need to remove the alternator to get to the sensor.
