The is no factory wire on a focus that will do that. It might be an aftermarket radio, alarm, keyless entry system that was poorly installed by previous owner and now shorted out. A fuse may be blown as well. If an aftermarket security system, it may be preventing the car from starting until everything is back in place (or completely removed).
Did you check the start relay for voltage? Ohms reading?
If I remember correctly the circuit goes like this: Key turns ignition switch which puts voltage to the start relay which engages the solenoid. So if it isn't even clicking and your headlights seem to be working fine then it is either the ignition switch or the start solenoid coil. On older Fords the start solenoid used to be remote mounted on a fender. I heard newer Ford vehicles had it integrated with the starter like GM does. A quick visual inspection will tell you which and where you need to look. You might check if there is a fuse for that as well.
in fords there two fuse boxes one inside the vehicle and another underneath the hood, the three components r all on the same circuit which is protected by a maxi fuse a fuse that is 40amps or better,. there is a main fuse that protects the circuit itself outside of the fuse for each different accessory. check all the fuses in the vehicle with a fuse tester or a test light.especially the fuse box under the hood close to the battery
THE THEFT ALARM WILL NOT ALARM THE VEHICLE TO CRANK OVER, ITS SOMETHING MECHANICAL JUST OCCURED AT THE TIME U INSTALLED THE RADIO, THE FACTORY SYSTEM IS BUILT INTO THE KEY FOR FORDS, TRY THE SPARE KEY,CHECK ALL FUSES UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE DASH U MAY HAVE BROWN A FUSE AS WELL
Try "resetting" your keyless entry code. Which is a fancy way of explaining that I broke my keyless entry key fob and had to order a new one. It came w/ instructions explaining how to get the new fob to speak to the car's computer. It was weird (turn key on and off 3 times, open and close door three times, etc. **I'm sure my neighbors were watching and laughing**), but it worked. I'll scan and email you the insrtuctions if you wish. Dan: email@example.com
