Nissan Maxima QX 1995cc 1999 - Engine hesitation and sometimes cutting out - intermittant problem

Sometimes engine starts hunting when gears engaged. If I put gears (Auto) into neutral then the hunting stops and engine ticks over normally. Problem sometimes bad with rapid acceleration.

Hi I own a 2006 nissan 1400 and its hard to engage into gear if the engine is running

when accelerating gently there is an intermittent misfire , if however I give it full throttle the misfire is gone immediately , and when cruising on level surface I cannot detect any misfire.

There are several things that could be the cause of your problem.

I will assume that you do not have any CHECK ENGINE lights on.

Please try driving the vehicle, when the problem occurs, engage ever so slightly the brake pedal. This should disengage the overdrive. If the problem goes away at that point, while the brake light is on, then you may have a faulty Torque Converter Control. This problem causes the Torque converter to engage/disengage over and over.

After that your next culprits are usually a bad Exhaust Gas Recirc valve, or faulty Throttle Position Sensor, Oxygen sensor, and possibly an exhaust pipe constriction typically found in a bad catalytic converter. (this is the more expensive of the forementioned, so I put it last!)

Regards,

Brian

So, under a load, the engine is running "rough".

Please see my previous post that referenced the Catalytic Converter. There are other suggestions in my post, as well.

Please let me know what you have found from these tips.

It is possible but unlikely, the ignition switch is pretty rugged and dosn't give much trouble.
Check the starter motor connections , try hot wireing direct from the positive terminal of your battery to the starter to ensure that the starter is not the problem.
If the starter is Ok investigate the shifter lockout that stops the car starting in gear, they sometimes get dirty or break.
Happy hunting Marshall

You will need to check the Mass airflow sensor and the Idle position sensor.

SOUNDS LIKE THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE BAD WHICH UNFORTUNATELY ARE EXPENSIVE. YOU COULD POSSIBLY GET SOME USED INJECTORS FROM A JUNK YARD FOR CHEAPER.
