Smell gas while driving inside car

A leaking fuel line can be discovered by looking for gaspuddles under your car when parked. A fuel-injection line may also leak, causing you to notice the smell of gasfumes during and immediately after driving. A fuel-tank vent hose may also leak, causing unburned gas to exit your fuel system as vapor.24 Apr 2015

I have a 1999 Elantra 2.0L. It is overfueling with gas smelling in the car, very high fuel consumption. Could it be a faulty or dirty crank sensor

The most common cause for this condition is a leaking purge valve located under the hood. This purge valve goes bad all of the time causing a few different conditions. It could go bad causing a hard start after filling up with fuel or it could be leaking fuel vapors causing this smell inside the vehicle you are describing.

Also, be sure to check the fuel-rail dampener, around the fuel pressure line, fuel injectors and o rings VERY carefully for any fuel leaking as this can cause a gas smell inside the vehicle.

I think this is the same question I already answered for someone but just in case.

Put a new in tank fuel pump in 3 days ago in my hyundai accent, but can smell petrol inside the car.

I would double check that your fuel tank is sealed. Fuel fumes can be very bad for your health and can be very dangerous. Sounds as though the gas line may be leaking, or the fuel pump seal is leaking.

What could cause me to not get fuel pressure when the key is on but engine not runnning?

It sounds like your fuel pump is bad. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank.

Check the vacuum hose that goes to the fuel pressure regulator. If the diaphragm
in the regulator develops a leak it will pump fuel into the manifold.

Gas or anitfreeze are both petrolium based prducts. Check for leaks on both. Antifreeze has a sweet smell and is either green or orange if using Dex Cool (look in resivoir to confirm color or if its low) to diffrentiate the 2.

Fuel leak, strong gas smell inside and outside of car

when you look for a fuel leak, make sure the engine is running. the fuel lines will be pressurized and you are more likely to spot the leak. if you see fuel squirting, be careful since it under a lot of pressure. it might look like a single strand of a spider web. also, you should wear eye protection since gas in the eye would be a bad thing. needless to say, don't light a match or lighter for light to find the fuel leak. since gas is explosive, you probably should take it to a shop if you can't fix it. it could be dangerous if gas drips on a hot part. fuel vapors are explosive too.

Fuel leak, car will not stay started

Please fix the fuel leak before anything else!! The fuel pressure is definitely being lowered by the leak and the leak itself is a serious fire hazard. If the fuel pressure is too low, the engine will starve and shut off.

Honda Prelude 1989

well, there has to be a leak somewhere, broski.

Because you wouldn't be smelling fuel inside the car if there weren't.

I'd look somewhere around the fuel pump housing and work my way to the front of the car, personally.

chances are you're getting close to the leak if the fuel odor is getting stronger.
