SOURCE: Valve train tapping?

The 6.0 engine had an issue with piston to bore clearances, from the factory these clearances were excessive. It is reffered to as "piston slap". This condition is known by GM, but most dealers say it's normal. It can be as slight as an annoying tick, to a clearly audible clacking noise. Unfortunately the condition was under played by GM, and there are many folks who haven't been able to get help with their trucks. I own an '03 Silverado w/6.0, and hear this noise everytime I start my truck. I deal with it, because I'm a mechanic and figure I'll be able to fix it if I need to. Research more online about this condition. I've found many websites that relate to this issue (Google: 6.0 piston slap) I hope this helps.

SOURCE: the rocker arm ticks

before trying too much the lifters will sometimes bleed off some of the prime they have. first try putting in a pint of marvel mystery oil. if that doesn't fix it run an oil pressure test to see if you need a new pump or new lifters

SOURCE: tapping sound after changing all new lifters

What motor is it? Some of the V-6's will always make the noise no matter what you do! Gotta love GM for this!

How to locate oil filter holden captiva LX Petrol 2010

Hi Indi as far as I remember the petrol version has the oil filter tucked up at the front of engine. It is quite a large filter so it is quite noticeable. looking at the engine front grill if its a spin on filter it is slightly left of centre but up under the base of engine. If cartridge type (don't think this is your model) open bonnet look down towards bell housing and there is a black plastic round cover with a nut shape on top this needs to be undone and removed to show filter. The diesel is looking from front left of engine behind timing cover ( cartridge type) Sorry it's been a few years since I last done one of these but try all three locations and I am sure you will find it Good luck.

Have an 06 Ra Holden rodeo v6 3.5 petrol. A very loud knocking noise has started, it has lost a bit of power. The noise seems to be louder when I rev the car. What could be the problem?

knocking usually called rod knock --possible spun a bearing on crank -other wrist pin damaged --piston rings damaged --other possible valve drop or bent ---need to do a compression check --to see which cylinder is causing problem

Engine has squeasky noise consistant with rocker timing

Not sure what rocker timing is but if you are talking about a rocker arm tapping then you will need to remove the rocker arm cover and adjust the lifter that is making the noise.

Camshaft change

This is not s small job and should not be attempted unless you have a very good knowledge on timing systems and such? Luckily this is a overhead cam system, once you have removed all air system and hoses you can unscrew cylinder rocker cover to reveal cam. You will have to take cam cover off from side of engine, then you will have to locate cam timing tensioner, scratch cam timing wheel or mark with nail varnish for exact position! Then undo bolt to remove wheel, you will need a wedge to remove this/them if dual (this is the most important thing to get precise) then slacken tensioner to release belt after which you should be able to systematically undo cam shim bolts and release cam shaft, (make sure you make note of assembly for brackets as major part of healthy engine! If you shim s look worn then Defo replace them . After replracing New cam shaft line up old wheel with the timing marks and then you will be ready to replace timing belt and lining up cam position then tighten up belt and replace cam cover and rocker cover, if when you try to turn engine over you hear tapping noise, turn off immediately and ask garage to set timing up for you but remember to inform them of your escapades for them to fix. If no tapping noise then it done and you deserve a big pat on the back. Good luck and hope this helps?

My Holden Barina (2001) makes a rattling noise emitting from the right hand side of the engine. It gets louder when I accelerate. Yesterday I lost all power after only driving it for 1km. The oil level is...

Check all of your belts and pullies. Sometimes it helps to remove the belts and turn the pullies by hand. Also run the engine without the belts for a few seconds. If the noise is still there, then it is most likely timing components rattling.

Hi guys, I have a Holden rodeo 2004 3.5 v6 2wheel drive crew cab. It won't start and seems no petrol is flowing into the filter mounted on the front end of the petrol tank. Is the fuel pump supposed to...

the fuel pump should make a wineing noise when the key is on
but just because its not running its not necessarily a bad pump
check the fuse and the relay and make shure you have power getting to the pump before you replace the pump

whater in the fuel can come from any number of places condensation in the tank, bad fuel from the station.
