Question about Ford Mustang

1993 Mustang 2.3 AOD Auto Trans, after storing over winter took on 200 mile trip did find, next time after warmed up and turned off then back on trans slips in upper forward gears. ????? When cold fine, or when accelerating after warm slips. Something simple I feel pretty sure. Fluids have been flushed and filter changed since, no comment from mechanic who did the change. Check vacuum and modulator seemed fine.??? I did just find a wire off the EEC (??? marked on top of unit) and reconnected it securely.

Thank you for the tip. Turns out the modulater wasn't leaking oil, but was not working right I replaced it and my friend said it haS NEVER SHIFTED SO WELL....

All else had checked out and this was a last ditch method of relpacing before proven bad. It Worked just bet my corvette has the same issue...XXXX fingers, only 30 k the tranny R700.

I don't recall ever seeing an AOD trans behind a 2.3 ltr 4 cylinder engine,all the one's i've seen had the A4LD trans in it.That model trans utilizes a vacuum modulator that is mounted on the passenger side of the trans case.The vacuum modulator is responsible in large part for the trans upshifting at the proper speeds.I have seen plenty of cases where those modulators go bad.When this happens,late shifting is experienced,and the same thing happens if any of the vacuum lines under the hood have a problem,like cracks,small vacuum leaks,etc.To diagnose,you have to get under the car,and disconnect the vacuum line from the modulator.If the modulator is bad,trans fluid will run out.If the modulator is good,no fluid will run out.Hook a vacuum gauge to the line down at the trans,and start the engine.Idle vacuum should be 15-18 psi,and when the throttle is abruptly applied to wide open throttle,vacuum should drop to near zero.There is one other area to look for problems on this trans,still externally,and that is the servos.They are located also on the passenger side of the trans case,and there are 2 of them.They are round circular aluminum covers held in place in round bores with snap rings.They can be removed,and are black metal stampings coated in rubber.If the rubber lip seals are hardened up from the exhaust heat,replace them,and you may get your gears back.Good luck.

Just had a mechanic swap out my aod and after picking it up and driving aprox. 8 miles the car shut down. it turns over but wont start.

I have a 81 f-100 that is getting 10.8 miles per gallon I have rebuilt the carb (2 bbl) checked the compression and tuned it and set the timing and everything checks out ok what else is there to check??...


First off these rigs were never noted for good MPGs but admittedly 10.8 is bad. When you tuned it did you replace plug wires, fuel filter? Another thing you might try - if you have access to a vac gauge - Older Fords harmonic balancers outer ring was pressed on and after many miles it can move throwing off timing mark. If you have vac gauge, connect to full vac source on intake manifold, when fully warmed up, loosen distributor hold down, turn distributor until you get your highest reading, then back off by 2-3 lbs of vac. Tighten distributor. I advise closer to 3lbs of vac down because it might ping at 2lbs.

Check that your gas cap is on tight (clicks). Take your car to an auto store and have them read the codes(usually free). They can tell you what the codes mean. You may only need a new oxygen sensor. I have a Mitsubishi that the light regularly turns on in the winter and off in the summer(196,000 miles). Gas mileage is stable. Your car is newer but a road trip may be all it needs to turn off the light.

If I've travelled 2082 KL in a 12 month period how much fuel would I have used in an SUV


Depends on how you drive, how long you let it warm up, etc. If it was getting say 20 mpg, it would use about 65 gallons to go 1294 miles (2082KM), Do you know how to check your fuel mileage? When you fill up, zero the trip meter, or write down the miles, next time you fill up, get a receipt with gallons (liters) on it and write down the miles, divide it by the number of gallons, this is miles per gallon. 200 miles divided by 10 gallons equals 20MPG . zero the trip odometer again and next tank you can figure it again. I write the miles on my reciepts so anytime I want I can check. Hope this helps.

YOU HAVE A AOD,NOT AN AODE. YOU'RE AOD HAS A MANUAL THROTTLE VALVE CABLE WITH MANUAL OVERDRIVE SELECTIVE BY LINKAGE. AODE HAS ELECTRONIC OVERDRIVE ACTIVATED BT A BUTTON AND MORE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS,THIS ONE WON'T WORK. TRY GETTING A REBUILD ON IT,MAY BE CHEAPER WITH A WARRANTY! GO SOME WHERE RELIABLE THOUGH LIKE DEALER.

sounds like a vacuum leak, injectors clogged, bad plugs, plug wires or maybe low tranny fluid or combo one all, have it dynoed to save yourself some money of course.

Starting Problem with 2001 Ford Mustang


one of the most likely causes would be your iac valve sticking. you can pull it off and clean with carb cleaner. it will be bolted on air intake close to throttle plate two 8mm bolts it will have a little motor housing coming out of it.

that trnas will not bolt up and since you don't have a computor control the trans wount interface with the harness it requires which you do not have on your vehicle. please rate this solution
