If the experts told Dan to get rid of the car, then I am in total agreement ! I walked into a Ford garage a few years back to get some advice on a friend's Contour I was putting a timing belt on. I talked for a bit with a mechanic there, and it seemed all the ford mechanics there were pretty much in agreement that the Ford Contour was one poorly designed and executed product that they'd rather not see come in their shop. Expensive to repair and often made the owners mad from all the hassle.
Attend to one of the door switches for the dome light, and see if the brake switch on the brake pedal can be adjusted. IDK, do these models have a body control module? I hope not for your sake. (Trade it off!)
go to ford.com select "owners" at the top scroll down and select "owners website" then "owners guide" select your year, make and model and you can download the whole thing and even BETTER because you will get the updated information compared to what was printed the day the vehicle was made
They're are some differences possibly but not sure. Have you picked up a repair manual for this vehicle?
Stop by NAPA or Auto Zone and request a copy of the "Haynes Manual" for you car. In it you'll find a detailed photo guide of repairs on your car. Also, in the back is a detailed breakdown and wiring guide / schematic for your car...
The Fuse Diagram is located inside the cover for the Power Distribution Box and You can get The owners manual Online that also has a list of Fuse locations and Fuse amp ratings. Good Luck, Hope it Helps.
