1994 gmc sierra 1500 pickup 4.3 L. v6...I am dropping trans pan to replace filter and gasket and add fresh trans fluid....the rear pan bolts are obstructed by a cross member and trans mount....I can see bolts on each rear corner of the pan and also one bolt in and I can get on the ones that are in from the corner from above the cross member, but is there one in the center above the trans mount ? does the cross member have to be removed to do this job or not?

What you do is loosen or remove the cross member first

Then you decide,if using a small air driven cut off wheel to
remove some metal from cross member, will help remove
the trans pan in the future.

Testimonial: "I thought about drilling a hole or holes, but the cuttoff wheel is even better..but yes, it would be easier when removed..thanks..."

How to put in a tranny filter on a 91 gmc 4x4 4.3l blazer

You remove the transmission pan and then remove the old filter. Make sure you remove the old seal out of the valve body and install new filter with new seal and re-install pan. Fill with fluid and you are done.

How do I change the transmission fluid and filter? 1999 GMC Jimmy 4wd

Its not really that hard. You just need to take your time and a very large pan. Your filter is just in side the trans pan. The pan will have to be dropped. A ratchet and socket will make short work of it. Just undo the bolts on the trans pan( undo 3 corners and the bolts on that side, allowing the pan to lean to drain some of the fluid). Hold pan steady, and undo remaining bolts. Lower the pan. Now its time to scrape the old gasket off the pan and trans case. Please clean to metal, don't want leaks. Remove the old filter, and replace with the new one. Install the gasket to the pan, and bolt the pan back into place. If you put 4 bolts from around the pan, makes it easier to put the rest in. Now to refill the trans, you need a funnel and add the fluid ant the dipstick. Bring it back up to level. This job will take a beginner about one hour. Hope this helps

The transmission is shifting hard going from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd on my 1998 GMC sierra 1500 4x4 5.7 liter. This does not happen until about 15 to 20 minutes of driving. Before that the...

rec check fluid first. If trans fluid hasn't been changed in last 30,000 miles change fluid, filter and pan gasket. At that time inspect for foreign materials in bottom of pan or on magnet if you have one. If truck has over 100K and fluid was never changed you may have more problems if changing the fluid.

Filter for transmission located for a 2001 dodge stratus.

jack up the car and put it on stands. remove the drivers side plastic shield next to the transmission. remove the 10mm bolts from the rear and sides of the trans and loosen the ones in front. keep a pan under the trans as you will drain the fluid this way. once you have the fluid out, remove the remaining bolts and drain the last of the fluid. The filter is visible under the trans. Be sure to remove the o-ring in the hole. Replace the filter and make sure it seats in place. Scrape off any silicone gasket material and install the pan gasket and pan. The bolts torque to 165 inch pounds or about 13 ft/lbs. Add in 4 quarts of transmission fluid. Start the car, keep your foot on the break and shift the car into each of the gears to fill up the trans piping with fluid.

Hello! i have a 1989 GMC sierra 1500 2 wheel drive 350 engine, and i would like to know what size transmission does it take? the one i have in the truck now it will go into reverse but not drive, it leaks...

I would try replacing the transmission filter and fluid. There 2 different transmissions that came in the truck, a THM 400 3 speed, 13 bolt fluid pan, and a THM 700-R4 4 speed, 16 bolt fluid pan.

Does my chevy silverado 2004 v8 2wd ls transmission have a filter and drain plug

No drain plug, the filter is inside trans. Remove trans oil pan (it will be full of tran fluid so loosen bolts on one end and work your way to other end) May have to take bolts out of a cross member and slid it back to get to all the pan bolts. The filter is flat and you'll see it once the pan is dropped. Pull straight down to remove. Clean out sludge and old fluid from pan and scrape old gasket off.
Push new filter into place. Its a good idea to use gasket sealer to help keep it from leaking and to help hold gasket in place so bolt holes stay lined up while bolting up pan. Tighten all bolts evenly. Then refill tran with the fluid your service manual list. Operate your truck in all gears (shifting back and forth) and recheck trans fluid level. Its not a hard job to change filter and fluid. If you can change your own motor oil and have a rachet and sockets then you couldnt have any problems. Just get your filter and trans fluid from your local auto parts store like Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

How can i change the transmission fluid

You can jack the car up and pull out all the screws holding the silver pan on the bottom of the transmission. but there is two problems with that. 1- you have to torque down the bolts in order from middle to end or you satnd a good chance of leaks. 2 that want get all the transmission fluid out. You can however go to your nearest dealer and get a tranny flush it uaully runs about 80 or 90 bucks!
