NON-START CAN YOU HELP WIT THE NON-START> Engine turns over but will not fire, no spark at spark plugs, no spark from ignition coil, fuel supply is good, have changed cps sensor still no start. did the blink code and got code 12, can you give me any possible explanation or remedy. ALSO CHANGED COIL mant thanks barry

The code you specified just means that you disconnected the battery within the last 50 times you started the car, shouldn't be a problem..
I don't know which engine you have but I would remove the coil itself and use an ohm meter on it, check all the connector to it also, no oil or cleaners etc on the wires.
The ohms on a 6cyl coil should be about 1 'one' ohm on the primary and 11 to 15 k on the secondary side, depends on the manufacturer of the coil but anything over 11k is prob ok..take it out to do this, much safer and you can see if it's cracked etc while you have it out.
If it doesn't ohm out correctly you may just have a blown coil, it happens fast and there is no rhyme or reason for it, just replace it. If it tests good, put it back in and try to start, could have been one of the connections to it that you have fixed now by removing it to test. If it still won't start I believe there is an auto shutdown relay that might come into play. If that's the case try back here, I will look for your post.

My 96 volvo 850 gtl2.4L ENGINE CRANK OVER BUT WONT START I REPLACED THE INGNITION COIL \ POWER STAGE WITH NO RESULTS.PLEASE HELP


Reasons for engine turning over and not firing are simple. Spark or fuel. If you've changed the coil packs then chances are it's a fuel issue. Get in cab and turn ignition to second position whilst listening to back seat. You should hear the faint noise of the fuel pump working. If you can't, I suggest you firstly check your manual to find the fuse/relay for the fuel pump and check that. If they are fine, you need to replace fuel pump.

If you can hear it working and it still won't start, remove the fuel line going to injector rail and point into a jar whilst someone turns engine over. You should have fuel coming out. If this is fine, go back to ignition, remove a spark plug and turn engine over checking for a spark.

My bet is your fuel pump has packed-up. Good luck diagnosing.

Crank, won't start problem. I checked the spark plugs on Jeep 98. Looks good. Could it be the crank sensor or starter coil?


Yes it is very much possible.But there are many other possibilities too,including starter and spark plugs issue.

If your engine cranks normally but will not start because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark.

You can also do a test to confirm the problem .The procedure to do the test is as follows:---

If your engine has spark plug wires, disconnect one of the plug wires from a spark plug and place the end of the wire near a metal surface on the engine. Then insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the end of the wire (the plug boot), or a small bolt or nail to provide a conductive path. Then crank the engine and look for a spark to jump from the screwdriver, bolt or nail in the end of the plug wire to the engine. If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem.

OR-----------

If your engine has a coil-on-plug ignition system with no plug wires, In that case remove one of the coils from the spark plug and insert an old spark plug, a spark plug tester or a screwdriver into the end of the coil. Ground the spark plug or plug tester to the engine, then crank the engine and look for a spark. No spark indicates an ignition problem.If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If NO voltage, then problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).

But If there is NO voltage at the coil itself, then in that case the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).-----------------

Jeep cranks but no start:----------------

A jeep that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the jeep. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the jeep. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the jeep. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the jeep. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the jeep is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. 2004 KIA OPTIMA WON'T START AFTER SPARK PLUGS WERE CHANGES


HI. There are several areas of concern here. I will list them below. Check all areas stated in the list for faults.

Possible cuases:

1. Incorrect firing order set. On the 2.0, 2.4 and 2.7 engines. These engines are equipped with a distributor-less ignition system. This system incorporates a coil pack assembly, along with wire sets. In order for the assembly to fire correctly, the order of the wires must be set to the proper sequence. if not, the engine will not turn over, or start correctly. Make sure your firing order is correct, and make sure you have not placed a particular wire set into the wrong cylinder. I will post a picture of the correct firing order for your engine, below this list, shortly.


2. Incorrect spark plug gapping procedure. If the new spark plugs were gapped incorrectly, this will not allow for proper spark, thus, preventing optimal combustion, due to lack of fire. Check the spark plug gap using a wire gap gauge, and adjust if necessary. The gap should be 0.039-0.043 in. (1.0-1.1mm)

3. Failed coil pack assembly. This will be the worst case scenario. The coil pack supplies the necessary current that fuels each plug. The current is transferred, via wire sets.This will be the culprit if all the above areas are proven to be operational, and in good shape.

4. Failed wire sets. Replace the wire sets if faults are found at the connector at the ignition coil pack, or at the plug boot.

Engine will turn over, won't fire


There are only 2 things to make it fire: having fuel and having spark. Pull out one plug and have a helper to start the engine while you hold the spark plug touching the engine chassis to see if it sparks. If there is then open the air filter to put some of fuel in tho start. It if is starts then you know what the problem is. No spark, look for problem at the ignition coil , rotor and distributor cap. No fuel , look for problem the fuel pump relay behind the battery. Good luck.

I would say replace ignition coil, that might me the problem, otherwise it can be the ecu, which might have some electrical problems not allowing the car to stay running. Good luck.

it could be either due to gas or ignition problem. verify if you have ignition output by checking for sparks by removing one spark plug reinstall it at ignition cable and touch metal part of the spark plug to any engine part (metal only) observe for spark while cranking the engine (two man job if you dont have a remote start switch) spark should be whitist or bluish. if no spark spark check ignition electronic module replace as required. if you have spark check for gas supply i am assuming you have throtle bodied injection observe gas being injected at the venturi chamber while engine id being cranked.
