I got the brakes done on my 2001 toyota camry. The front pads are squeeling bad. When the mechanic looked at the car he said that the pads are hanging off the rotor about an inch. Why is this. Is there a part missing? Thanks for your help.
It seems like the caliber is not completley seated on the rotor or has vibrated loose causeing them to move up.
i would take you vehicle back to who done your brake and have them look at them again and see what they are hanging like that. if you get into an accident because of them would not be good.

unless you can replace pads/rotors, I would say take it to a mechanic. If this only happens on uneven surfaces, it could also have something to do with front struts or control arm bushings. Best to have a pro check it out.
because you didnt clean/lubricate the pistons before you replaced the pads they are not able to move back enough to clear the rotors when driving, they should settle down with wear.....( copperslip/anti squeel grease.)
If its a lite squeel and goes away when brakes are applied. Have you had front brakes put on recently. If you have and the rotors were not replaced and turned. Alot of mechanics don't do the final cross hatching on the rotors when they are done turning. This will barke in the pads wrong and cause this even with expensive pads. It will cause premature glazing and have a squeel that will drive you crazy.
just take off tire take a clip out and pull out front shoe and take off roter then the back push in the cylender with a c clamp and revers the process of the calaper might come off using boltes then same process
cv joint boots cracked? cv shaft wearing, also double check pads have been scuffed and discs machined, they might be bedding in.still but worth looking at
good luck
Check the brake pads, see if the pads are worn down to the "squealers"; these are metal tabs 9on the pads) that indicate that the brake pads are worn to the replacement thickness.
They commonly squeal only in reverse.
To change these pads is simple. You first should wash down the area with brake clean so you don't inhale the dust. Then they are to pins that go through the top of the pads and the caliper. (This Caliper has pistons on bothsides) You them remove the metal clips that hold those two pins. with a needle nose pliers. after removing the clips you will be able to remove the two pins and remove pads. Using the old pads in place you can then push back the piston to make room for the new pads.
