Stuck in high position

I was riding through the grass in my car. Uneven ground not my back end is up very high how do i get my shocks back down

On this model vehicle the rear shockers should have air bags to keep car at normal ride height, when load changes.
The air bag can sometimes become caught between inner and outer tubes of shocker when car is raised and lowered quickly.
You will need to jack car up from tow hitch or frame to lower rear axle, this will unfold air bag, slowly lower car, with ignition on, this will make sure air compressor is filling air bags as they take the load.

92 Riviera hyper-inflated rear air shocks


If the seals are worn how can the suspension hold air pressure? Sounds to me like the height sensor is bad and/or maybe some part of the system was damaged while up on the lift.

Knocking sound at steering wheel during turning of mistubishi adventure


It sounds like a ball joint is worn, possibly the rack end ball joint or tie rod end.
With the bumpy ride it could also be that the front shock absorber has failed.
Jack the front wheel up on each side in turn, grab the wheel at each side and shake it back and forth as hard as you can. If you hear or feel looseness, the problem is in the steering, as above.
Then shake the wheel while holding it at top and bottom. If you feel looseness then, the problem is in the front suspension wishbones.
Repeat this on the other front wheel. Let it down on the ground, then bounce each front corner up and down as hard as you can (you might have to have a second person with you doing this). If you hear a clunk or feel excessive bounciness, it is the shock absorber. When bouncing like this, the car should resist, and not keep bouncing when you let go.

yes if the wheels are going to be of the ground for any length of time, the suspension will keep trying to level the car and will get stuck in the high position..

Can I replace my air ride shocks on the back of my 96 explorer with regular shocks and do away with the air ride? I need new shocks and don't want to invest alot of money on an old car.


Yes, you can just put regular shocks on the back,just make sure you get shocks that have the same length as your original ones and that are from a explorer without air suspension.That way you wont have the back end of the car riding too low or bottoming out.

Instructions for replacing shocks & struts


Ok first off if the vehicle is equipped with air ride you need to turn the air ride off or you will blow out the rear bags when the rear is off the ground.

For the front Remove the wheel. Take off the upper shock nut. Now remover the two lower retaining nuts. Compress the shock and pull it out. Install in reverse order. Before installing the new shock push the piston completely down and allow it to return. Do this 2 to 3 times.

For the rear remove the wheel support the rear end with jack stands at the jack points. Now use your jack (not a scissor jack) and place it under the rear diff to support the rear diff. If you have another set of jack stands use them and support the rear axle as it sits.

Remove the lower shock bolt. Now remove the two upper shock bolts and the shock will come right out.

height sensor is a sensor that control air compressor on air shock.it keep vechicle level.if height sensor senses distance between frame and suspension .it will admit air to shock by controling the air compressor.check the air shock on driver side.BESURE TO TURN OFF ELECTRICAL POWER TO AIR SUSPENSION BEFORE RAISING VECHICLE.

Forgot toi turn the air suspension off when


Remove battery, remove windshield washer bottle, remove air compressor and disconnect both air lines from the compressor dryer. Make sure compressor electrical wiring is plugged in, install battery, turn suspension switch to ON, turn ignition switch to the ON position, close all door and the compressor should come on and completely lower the whole truck. Once the truck is completely down, turn the ignition OFF, remove battery and connect both air lines. Install battery ensure electrical wiring is plugged in, turn ignition switch to ON, the compressor should come on and raise the vehicle to the correct ride height.

Back end rides high!


it may not have been pluged in or the arm that goes from the contrl arm to the sensor not snap in to place . the rod snaps in to a ball and socket . if you look under the rear of the car you should see it it bolts to the fram and has a arm that goes to the lower control arm .

I have a 2002 monte carlo and it shakes reallt bad at 50 mph and turning curves at 25 mph speeds and up...also going down hills and pushing the brakes..i just had new rotors and brakes put on the front...


I'm going to bet that you didn't do anything about checking the following:
  1. Tie Rods and ball joints.
  2. Shocks/struts...front and rear
  3. Wheel balance
  4. Condition of the tires.
If you don't know how to check the first two, do the following: jack front wheel up and insert a stand. Then take the bottom of the tire and pull up quickly and hard...does it 'click'? Now, do the same from front to back. Up and down wear is ball joints...side to side is tie rods. Get a mechanic to help you. Many chains will inspect for a modest fee.

If a tire is worn because of worn front end parts...the wheel can't hold a proper position in relation to the steering wheel...it wears the tires. They go out of balance and will shake at 25 mph. Check for rounded sidewalls and uneven wear. Replace the tires after getting new front end parts installed and aligned. Check your shocks/struts for excess wear or leaking. They contribute poor ride, to wear and sloppy handling
