No brake lights but turn signal and tail lights work
My 1988 thunderbirds brake lights stopped working they used to come on when i pressed the peddel but if i pressed it to hard they would go right back off now they don't work at all but the turn signals and tail lights work perfect so it's not the ground or a bulb

Check the brake light switch located under the dash, connected at the junction where the master cylinder rod connects to the brake pedal. Remove the connector and with a short piece of wire, paper clip works fine, insert into the two terminals on the connector. Check to see if your brake lights are on. If they are, your switch is bad.
Sounds like your brake light switch needs to be replaced. It is attached to the brake pedal and should cost you around $20 from an auto parts store. If the fuses and bulbs are good there is a 99% chance it is the brake light switch. Hope this helps! Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.
When this happens the problem is most likely the multi-funtion switch aka turn signal switch. Check to see if the 3rd brakelight comes on when the brake pedal is pushed. If so replace the MFS. The 3rd brakelight in late 80's fords bypasses the turnsignal switch.
oh yes,, believe me you have just enter the pits of hell..
i have a 1990 thunderbird and your lights and **** are all right there with the stereo wiring my dash lights went out and it took forever to figure out how to get them back on good-luck ray

Brake light switch, located on upper brake pedal should be checked, that is most likely your brake light issue, but U say tail lights aren't working, but running lights do, tail lights and running lights I would consider to be the same, so can u clarify that for me? Let me know how the u do w/ brake light switch, and if u have issue w/ tail lights?
