Question about 1996 Isuzu Trooper
Hi i just had the opposite problem and what it was is they have two vacume soliniods on the front axle one turns on 4x4 the other turns off 4x4(blue one turns off)just check them and make sure there doing there job hope it helps

It's probably just bound up to drive train, (Driving in 4WD on hard ground hey?)
Put vehicle in reverse, travel in a straight line for about 10-20 metres, this should free it up.
