Mcdevito75 here, I;m sure you mean spark plugs, as glow plugs are for a Diesel engine. -------------- If by chance they are glow plugs and you do have a Diesel engine, I would take it to a shop for installation for 1 reason, the electrical connection on each glow plug is plastic, and in time Plastic gets very hard and brittle, what to do if 1 of those electrical connections break?????. If they are spark plugs, you should buy a spark plug gapper tool available at any auto parts store and get the gap of the spark plugs also the parts store has that info, usuallu .027 Spark Plugs are pre-gapped at the factory but need to be double checked, adjust gap (most likely not need) but if so by slightly, slightly bending the side or Bent electrode on the spark plug tip, Next you"ll need the exact spark plug socket and wrench, also available at the parts store, Let"s assume your set to go, on a cold, cold engine, twist, twist each spark plug wire at the spark plug itself, (as close to the engine as possible) TWIST and pull the spark plug wire off 1 spark plug just 1 . Fit you socket and wrech onto the spark plug all the way, make sure tool is fully on the spark plug, then remove the spark plug, install same way, do not use much force to tighten the spark plugs as they are tapered to fit fairly tight with just a little tightening, Follow this for all the spark plugs and you"ll be good to go. If you have a Diesel engine and indeed glow plugs, let the shop do the job.

Starting problem on kangoo

Check the big fuses in the power distribution box under the bonnet ,this is a UK reg vehicle kept outside no doubt and these fuse connections under the bonnet do get damp ,if still no joy for whatever reason then but a manual push button starter switch and wire them in direct manual overide ,power to switch then direct to the glow plugs ,so when the light dont come push button in for 10secs and no more and away you go,Clean the big fuses and spray with some 3in1 or a oil can with engine oil not that wd40 and lubricate the connections where the fuses push into.

Hi i need your suggestion about replacing the wiring harness. complaint is MIL glowing contineouslu ,and tested with scan shown as fuel heater problem and 1 st glowplug fault .dealer says...

There is not much information to go on. You didn't say what your vehicle is, what engine it has. Judging by what you wrote, the dealer got a fault code for the glow plug, but didn't change the plug. Instead, they want to put in a new wiring harness, even thoughthey got continuity. I think you need to take your vehicle someplace else and have a qualified mechanic look at it. At least, put in new glow plugs to see if that helps.

1997 Jetta: glow plugs not working. Glow plugs tested good, ne...

Before you invest in a long drawn out Glow Plug replacement etc. A little known issue occurs on the ALH TDI engines. The temperature sensor sending unit. A small blue module that plugs into the coolant hose assembly will cause a P error on the glow plugs that is nothing to do with the glow plugs at all. The part fails and sends a temp error to the engine computer. I tested all the coolant glow plugs, engine glow plugs and glow plug harness and all worked fine. One of the test procedures for the glow plugs is to undo this sensor that will force the glow plugs to come on no matter what temperature. This confirmed my GP system was functional and the sensor was bad. I purchased the part from local VW dealer for $33 US and installed and it is fine. Dependent on your model it can be square or round. The link to this part for your car is

Be sure to have VW Pentosin coolant on hand to refill coolant system as you will lose quite a bit when removing this part. It is located slightly behind the coolant glow plug assembly.. This is the round ones not the ones on the engine block at top.

Be sure that when you replace it you put in a new rubber gasket seal.. its a round rubber seal that should come with your new part. Dont reuse the old one or you will have a leak.

There is a c-clip that holds this in the hole you slide that clip off and wiggle the sensor out. Coolant will run out of the hole, so do this outside. The sensor is easily pulled out. You will need to insert the new part in teh same hole with new rubber gasket and replace c clip. Then plug in wiring harness and you should be good to go.
