Question about 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

2 Answers

I have a 1999 Ford crown Vic. I have noticed that when the transmission shifts into high gear I get a slight vibration. It does not do it all the time, but has become more frequent. I have been told it is the torque converter. What is your opinion? And is there anything short of replcing it that I can do?

Changing the filter and fluid is a given. But will that alone correct the torque converter problem?

This is called torque converter shutter. Get a trans flush done and you can go to NAPA and get an additive called lube guard. add 1 botle to trans and this should take care of this concern.

I would get the transmission drained, flushed and have them install a new transmission filter. It generally costs about 150 to get this done or you can do like i did and burn the transmission up and it can cost 1500 just for the transmission

2006 crown vic, What are the symptoms of bad transmission range sensor

not shifting --- slow shifting --- missing gear changes --- no OD or reverse or slow shifting to them. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal damage and have the bands and clutch packs adjusted . Run fault codes if this is available on your vehicle.

Change the filter and fluid. This car if the transmission is original should have a torque converter drain. Drain the torque converter also,it gets almost all the fluid out of the transmission. Doing this the car will require almost 12 quarts of fluid. Worth a shot. I change mine at 25000 mile intervals.

I have a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with a bad transmission. Will any transmission from a 1999 or 2000 Crown Vic. or Grand Marquis work as a replacement?

MOST INTERCEPTER CARS, MEAN THEY HAVE AN ADDED GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION! WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING IS GOING TO A TRANSMISSION WITHOUT THAT EXTRA GEAR! TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: YES YOU CAN REPLACE IT WITH A REGULAR TRANSMISSION! YOU JUST WON'T BE ABLE TO CHASE BURGLARS! HAHA

thereis a transmission module i believe, and that tells it when to shift. if they didn't have them in that year model, then a vacuum line will also cause that

It's normal on the AOD transmissions. Their first gear uses straight cut gear and thus has the whining noise. Gear 2, 3 and 4 are helical gears and thus quiet.

Do you have a check engine light on? The line pressure is too high in the transmission. This is either from a bad epc solenoid in the transmission or the computer commanding the pressure high from a bad MAF. If you have a bad MAF you should have other MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) codes in the computer.
