How to change front brake pads on a ford meteor

Remove the wheel---undo the bolts that attach the caliper to the steering suspension . Lift the caliper off the disc rotor.--remove the outer pad-- Using a G clamp push the inner pad and piston back into the caliper housing. This is best done by opening the bleed screw first so that the oil flows out and not back to the reservoir. Check that the caliper body slides freely on the mounting pins, Fit the new pads and all shims as they came out. Refit the calipers to the mounts and re-tension the bolts very tight. pump the brake pedal several times to take up the adjustment and then bleed the brakes to remove any air in the system. Any damaged disc rotors that need machining or replacing have to be done as a pair and any pads will have to be replace on both sides to maintain even braking

Brake job front pads

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE. THANK YOU:

Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  3. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the tire and the wheel assembly.
  6. Hand-tighten 2 wheel lug nuts in order to retain the rotor to the hub.
  7. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad.
  8. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston pushes into the caliper bore enough to slide the caliper off the rotor.
  9. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper.

Front brake pads and related parts

  1. Remove the lower caliper bolt (1).

WARNING Use care to avoid damaging pin boot when rotating caliper.

  2. In order to access the pads, rotate the caliper upward and suitably support it.
  3. Remove the pads (5) from the caliper bracket (3).
  4. Remove the 2 retainer slides (4) from the caliper bracket (3).
  5. Inspect all parts for cuts, tears, or deterioration. Replace any damaged parts.
  6. Inspect the caliper bolts for corrosion or damage. If corrosion is found, use new caliper bolts when installing the caliper.
To install:
  1. Using a C-clamp, bottom the piston into the caliper bore. Use an old brake pad or wooden block across the face of the piston. Do not damage the piston or the caliper boot.
Install the 2 retainers to the caliper bracket.

NOTE The wear sensor is on the outside pad. The sensor is positioned at the leading or upward edge of the pad during forward wheel rotation.

Install the pads to the caliper anchor bracket.

  1. WARNING
  1. Use care to avoid damaging pin boot when rotating caliper.

  1. Remove the support and reposition the caliper (2) back down over the front pads.
  2. Lubricate the pin bolt and the inner diameter of the bolt boot with GM P/N 18047666, or equivalent. Do not lubricate the threads of the pin bolt.
  3. Install the lower caliper bolt. Tighten the caliper bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  4. Remove the 2 wheel lug nuts retaining the rotor to the hub.
  5. Install the tire and the wheel assembly.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  8. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  9. Wait 15 seconds, then, repeat steps 10 and 11 until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  10. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the proper level.
  11. Burnish the pads and rotors.

I am getting a pulsing feeling from the front wheels when braking on my 2004 Chrysler Sebring. It feels like one or more of the rotors are warped. How do I replace the front rotors with new ones. Thanks.

If they are not worn beyond tollerance they can be machined on the vehicle.
Also make sure its not tyres or wheel bearings.

remove wheel
remove brake caliper( leave the hose connected)
remove centre cap
remove split pin and lock
unscrew bearing hub nut
rotor should come off
fit new bearing races in new rotor
grease new bearings
fit inside bearing and seal
refit rotor, outer bearing, washer, nut, lock, splitpin and centre cap
(tighten nut until no play in bearing plus 1\8 of a turn)
refit caliper and wheel
bleed and test brakes before driving

Changing the rotors how do you get them off

remove the wheel, remove the brake caliper (whole) just remove the two mounting bolts that hold it to the "hub"
theres one or two screws in the face of the rotor, unscrew them, pull it off - a rubber mallet might help!
Clean up the hub with a wire brush before fitting the new rotor. screw in the 2 screws on the face of the new rotor. Fit new brake pads and squeeze the pistons open to slide the caliper and pads over the new rotor, refit the two mounting bolts to the brake caliper, press the brake pedal to seat the pads on the rotor. refit and tighten the wheel, go for short drive and test the brake gently, if all is fine start on the second rotor, just repeat the process again.
LEAVE FEEDBACK PLEASE! Good Or Bad.

Front pad replacement the correct method for replaceing front disc pads

  1. Step 1 Remove ½ of the brake fluid from the master cylinder with the syringe and replace the cover. Discard the fluid.
  2. Step 2
  3. Remove the front hubcaps and loosen the wheel nuts using the lug wrench, but do not remove the nuts.
  4. Step 3 Lift the front end of the LeSabre with the floor jack and secure safely onto the jack stands.
  5. Step 4 Remove the wheel nuts and wheels. Screw one wheel nut back onto a wheel stud hand tight to retain the rotor away from the caliper assembly.
  6. Step 5 Place a large C-clamp over the left inboard caliper housing and the outboard pad, and tighten to compress the caliper piston.
  7. Step 6 Remove the two caliper guide bolts using a box end wrench. Remove the caliper and secure it to the vehicle chassis with mechanic's wire or a metal hook.
  8. Step 7 Remove the outboard pad from the caliper on the LeSabre first. Pry it off the outboard caliper housing using the screwdriver.
  9. Step 8 Remove the inboard pad by lifting the retaining clips out of the caliper bore.
  10. Step 9 Clean the surface of the caliper bridge that contacts the backing plate of the pads using a wire brush, and apply a thin coat of brake lubricant to the contact points. Be careful not to let the lubricant get onto the rotor.
  11. Step 10 Install the new inboard brake pad and shim into the caliper piston bore by pressing the retaining clips into the bore until it locks into place.
  12. Step 11 Install the outboard pad onto the caliper housing, making sure to align the retaining clips into the holes in the caliper. Use the screwdriver to convince the clips onto the caliper if necessary.
  13. Step 12 Replace the caliper over the rotor.
  14. Step 13 Clean off the surface of the guide bolts and apply a light coat of lubricant to the smooth surface of them. Align them properly through the rubber boots and bolt the caliper to the knuckle. Tighten the guide bolts using the wrench. Remove the wheel nut from the wheel stud securing the rotor.
  15. Step 14 Replace the wheel and wheel nuts. Tighten the wheel nuts snugly, and re-tighten them (with a torque wrench is recommended set at 100 foot pounds) once the LeSabre is back on the ground.
  16. Step 15 Repeat steps 5 through 14 for the right side.
  17. Step 16 Pump the brake pedal when you're through to seat the new pads against the rotors, then check and add new brake fluid to the master cylinder.

How do you get rotor off 2003 hyundia elantra

hi from uk not sure if same as uk hyundai's but here goes ? if you remove wheel do you see two countersunk posi screws between studs that appear to hold rotor ?? if so then you will have to first remove the brake caliper assy by unbolting from the rear of caliper two 13 mm spanner/socket ? then you remove the two bolts that secure the carrier that the caliper bolts to 17 mm spanner/socket now you can remove the two contersunk screws then you may have to tap the rotor off the hub from rearuse a wire brush to clean up/away all rust/dust from caliper and carrier assys b4 refitting (take precautions from breathing dust) i assume you are fitting new pads ?? reassemble carrier then b4 fitting pads smear a light coating of copper grease on the rear of pad (metal side ) this prevents squealing on brakes then fully reassemble then b4 fitting wheel? bleed the brakee caliper a couple of pumps should expel dirty fluid then fit wheel carry out same proceedure on other brake assy as above fully then b4 you move car pump brake to ensure pedal is firm you will find that bleeding brakes will make pedal firmer as the old fluid becomes compressable due to heat/moisture absorbsion over time and heat from brakes is transferred to fluid via caliper piston understand?? that is why alway policy to bleed/flush brake fluid at least two yr interval this reduces spongy brake pedal hope this is all clear 4 you to follow best wishes for new year and hope you update on how you go on??
