i also have the same problem but the speedometer just stopped working and i went to a local autozone and they told me i needed a new speedometer cable. It was only $10 all i need to do is connect it and see if it works.

I have same problem - except when it's cold it works for a couple miles then it seems the tranny warms up and the speedo will stop working.

There is an inherent problem with the 1988 trucks as there is a vehicle speed sensor that was no good to start with. The check engine light will produce a code in the prom that indicates the vss, check for a replacement either from GM, or a reputable auto parts store and replace it. It is located at the back of the transmission on the tail shaft just before the driveshaft. Good luck.

Possibly an ignition module or crank sensor problem. These are the two most common stalling electronics that will cause a stall when they get warm/hot and will then continue to operate once cooled down

ENGINE SMEELS HOT AFTER DRIVING ANY DISTANCE.

Hi Dianne, sorry, but I have to ask: after the oil change, are you sure the oil was re-filled? Maybe some got spilled on the exhaust manifold and needs to burn off (any smoke?) Is there coolant visible in the overflow tank? If the coolant is low, perhaps there is a leak in a hose to and from the radiator. "Hot smell" can also be rubber burning, i.e. drive belts, clutch pressure plate. Hard for me to tell w/o being there-hope this helps!

Why do a Mazda3 speedo only work when engine get warm

Could be the speedometer, or the speed sensor in the transmission.
Is the check engine light staying on ?
If it is, you should have the computer scanned for trouble codes. You may find a code for the sensor.

Car runs perfect then starts missing real bad then stalls

Not unusual for fuel pumps to begin to fail once they are heated up from running. First thing in the morning pump is cool, then as you drive, it heats up and begins to lose pressure. After sitting a 1/2hr-1hr, it may start again and run fine for a short time and start to act up again. Had similar problem and found good fuel pressure when tank and pump cool, but lost pressure once vehicle driven a distance and pump heated up. The hotter the weather, the shorter the distance I could drive. If you can somehow set it up to have fuel pressure checked when it starts to act up, that would certainly help confirm if fuel pressure is the culprit.

Speedometer quit working after transmission work and trans won't **** on 1999 Chevy silverado 4x4 5.3l

Most transmissions have a plastic gear mounted on the uotput shaft that connects to a gear on the end of the speedo cable or electronic sender unit for the speedo. This gear is normally driven by a steel ball embedded in the shaft and the gear has a slot that makes the ball act as a drive key. I would check by removing the sender unit/cable and seing if the gear can be rotated around the shaft. If it can be moved take the unit back to the reconditioners and ask for a warranty repair as the ball/ key has probably fallen out during assembly

1988 Nissan MaximThe speedometer quite working Is there a fuse??

Hi,

If you got ignition lights it won't be the fuse.
Check that the speedo gear is ok and then check the cable is ok.
If all those are ok then check that the speedo head is working by spinning the cable in the speedo head.

Hope this helps
