99 tahoe want start..

My tahoe would start then it would shut right back off. after a while bout 15 to 30 mins it would start right back up and run fine for a couple days then it would do it again, after a while my starter went out on me, replaced it and then it would make a grinding noise when i try to start it like my fly wheel and starter was eating each other... well i checked both the starter and fly wheel both are fine, i put the starter back in it started up but with the grinding noise but ran, parked my truck and hasnt started since, the starter 1st starter making a noise like it does when you test it, so i replaced it just to be on the safe side truck still want start but now its sounds like its out of gas, filled her all the way up still want start replace fuel filter want start, checked fuel pump its good, now im at the end and dont know what to do... any idea's

i agree with the key issue, my 200 tahow does that everyone once an while. I would bang on where the key goes and it would start. The security light would be on sometimes.

From what you describe, it sounds like a fule issue, not an igniton issue. Check the fuel pressure at the service port to make sure you're getting the right fuel pressure. Could be your pressure regulator malfunctioning or possibly clogged injectors if you have high mileage on the vehicle.

It couldn't hurt, but your best place to start is still by checking the fuel pressure to make sure the correct pressure is reaching the injectors.

On our 02 tahoe we have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, wires and plugs and 02 sensor, but when after driving for bout 15 mins it still wants to bog down and sometimes even kill.

Providing your air filter is clean, my guess would be a vacuum leak. With the engine running, pour some soapy water along the intake gaskets and see if it bubbles a lot. Check all vacuum lines by wiggling them when the motor is running, and listen for a hiss.
Check your timing and timing chain.
Egr system.
Faulty ignition coils.
Good luck.

Help

I had similar starting problems with my 99 Tahoe. It turned out to be the anti-theft device was malfunctioning and not recognizing the key so it would turn off the fuel pump and eventually the fuel pump went out too. Since having this replaced ($555.00 with parts and labor at the dealership) I have had no more problems at all with my truck and have actually braved taking it on a 6 hour road trip and had no problems with it leaving me stranded. Since that road trip, I have gone on several more and have full confidence that I will no longer have this be an issue.
