Yes this transmission does slip going into second gear and now this being a 4/4 both 4/4 lights are on at the instrument panel and there is a noise like a relay clicking this is also effecting other componets do you have any idea what would cause this and if so would it be something i might be able to fix myself

the transmission levels are ok and it shifts ok but i need to know if there is a relay that 3engages the 4/4 that could be causing the 4/4 lights to stay lit and be the chattering that i,m hearing from under the dash

Does it slip going into any other gear? First off, try checking the Transmission fluid level to ensure it is at the proper level (do this only after the car is hot and the car is running and on level ground for an accurate fluid level reading. If the fluid level seems to be in the proper range, bring the car to a reputable mechanic for inspection and/or adjustment on the bands of the transmission.

SOURCE: Slipping transmission.

The friction plates maybe well worn and need replaced. Torque converter may be failing. Automatic transmissions can and will wear out in time. 14 years is alot for any vehicle.

SOURCE: transmission slips in 2nd gear winds up rpms to 7000

Any slipping that you notice & RPM Flairs, the damage
is already done

You can not drive any vehicle more than 10 miles to home
or a shop, when they slip

Whatever was the start & cause of some of the problems,
now won't matter much, as there is a very good change you
will need to have the trans rebuilt

You could have a tran shop check it out,but it will
most likely have to come out to even get at any
solenoids,etc

I suspect that it could be a faulty pressure control sensor unit
run the fault codes and check for such a fault or a TCC solenoid /servo not operating properly

1995 lincoln occasionally has problems getting in gear to go. Seems like it is stuck in neutral. Lasts a few seconds then it gets into gear and goes.

SEEMS LIKE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW.TRANSMISSION SLIPPING TRYING TO GO IN DRIVE.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. IF LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL YOU REACH FULL MARK ON TRANSMISSION DIP STICK. WITH ENGINE RUNNING A IN OPERATING TEMPERATURE.IF FLUID LEVEL OKAY.CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED IN A LONG WHILE.A DIRTY STOPPED UP FILTER WILL CAUSE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP.CANT PICK UP FLUID.

Transmission slips

First thing is to check the transmission fluid. If the fluid level is good - have it checked by a transmission shop. Give them as much info as you can about when it slips - cold, climbing hills, going from second to high gear, etc.
