I have a 2000 escort zx2 with a manual trans. when I crank it, thats all it does, crank. if I pour a little gas down the throttle body and crank, the engine will start and run until that gas is burnt then...

I would have the fuel pump checked, sounds like you are not getting any gas.
Turn the key to the ON position and listen for the pump to hum, if there is no hum your pump is definitely shot or not getting power.
If you hear a hum, you may have a blockage... try a fuel treatment if you want to start simple. If that doesn't work you will need to pull the pump and see if it is actually pumping the fuel

I have a 77 chevy truck. 350 motor, Freshly rebuilt Holley Spread Bore. Replaced mechanical fuel pump and still no fuel past the pump. The lines from pump to carb do build pressure after attempting to...

Dump a tiny bit of gas, just a splash, into the front barrels of the Holley and crank the engine. It will start and die. do it again until the fuel is up and it keeps running. If it don't keep running, your either out of gas in the tank or you have blockage in the fuel line from tank. That's all it could possibly be. Period. Fuel pump is making pressure and pulling, it WILL work.

1985 grand Marquis acts like not getting fuel to start but if I pour gas directly into throttle body starts right up and runs what could be problem

Runs on the gas you pour in, or keeps running until you turn the key off ???
If the fuel pump relay fails, you would have to crank the engine until you get oil pressure to provide power to the fuel pump.
Do the injectors spray when you are cranking it ? Have you checked fuel pressure when the key is turned to start ?

Not getting gas in the carb. changed pump. poured a littlr gas in the carb good compression but dies when gas runs out

get a oil can the thumb operated type and squirt some oil down the petrol pipe and make sure pipe is upwards so the oil runs into the pump then leave for a while to wet the valves in the pump then crank engine to make sure petrol comes up or just refit the pipe and pour some petrol down the carb and watch it go

It will start run for a few seconds then die,u can pour gas in throttle body and it will run as long as your pouring gas in it,ive changed fuel filter.I checked fuel pressure and it is fine,60 psi.

Have you checked to see if the injectors are getting a signal? The best way is to hook a noid light to the injector wire harness and crank the engine.

Will not crank. i repalced the fuel filter and can pour gas down the carburetor and it will run till the gas burnes out then dies. what do i do?

Check the fuel pressure, if it is below 35 psi it probibly won't start (if your getting a reading, then you have power), this is where you check for power, when pulling the tank down to remove the fuel pump, check that there is power to the pump, I don't know what engine that you have so I don't know the pressure required to the injectors, if you give me this info I will let you know.

How do you get the gas tank out of a 1998 g20 van Van would not start, put new starter on it, but when it was cranked it sputtered and died. I thought it could be bad gas because it has not been moved in...

  • You need to start by removing almost all the remain fuel, fuel is very heavy
  • best method is to use a lift to get it off the ground, you could also use ramps to get the room need to drop the tank
  • disconnect the filler spout from the side of the van
  • disconnect the fuel lines
  • use lifting equipment to support the weight of the tank, make sure this is stable
  • carefully remove the tank straps and lower the tank, watch the fuel pump wiring and any other connection that may be in the way while lowering the tank.

Fuel pump

Check the ground circut. Don't Quote me on this one but that circut may run through the oil pressure sensor. It is a sefety feature in case of a roll over. If the engine dies or looses oil pressure it kills the pump so it does not keep pouring fuel on what could already be a bad situation.
