Question about 1998 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

I own a 2000 Isuzu Trooper. At about 40,000 miles, the transmission had to be replaced. Luckily, it was part of the power train warranty. Today I learn that the motor has sufferred old starvation - no oil showing on the dipstick. The car is serviced a proper intervals and the oil pressure guage has showed to issues. What is this about? Will this car ever be right again? Laura

By oil starvation, do you mean it has seized? If not, you could still be OK. My 98 trooper seized and had to have a new motor.

2002 Isuzu Trooper Check Engine Light Flashing Now Wont Start

Hello

The engine and the automatic transmission in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

I would like to buy a 2000 trooper and have found one i like. I am concerned about talk of injector faults and huge bills. Today a main dealer advised against buying a trooper with the 3l diesel engine. Is...

The 3.0 is getting on a bit now but they are good value still.
Injectors are still being covered under warranty by Isuzu by good dealers free of charge .
If you buy one you need a good  local garage service them properly  to the hand book specs .
We have 5 !  and my other half's did 206000 miles (1998 model) before the injectors gave trouble and Isuzu still fixed the engine free .

I pass on what I have learnt on here ,another good source to read about them is www.itocuk.co.uk

2000 ISUZU TROOPER WITH AUTO TRANSMISSION. CHECK

If the fluid is up -
it could be a vacume loss or the shifting module..
The shifting module is what tells it to shift - and it is controled by vacume pressure..

Warranty for 2001 trooper with 110000 miles

I would consult an attorney in this case. A power train warranty should be regardless of ownership and only expire once milage or term from purchase date expires. I do know that Isuzu is pulling out of U.S. sales and your time is running out.

I just came across this same problem with an 02 Trooper. The problem was the pump itself. There are upgraded pumps available now. Your transmission shop should be able to get it.

2001 4WD Automatic 6 Cyl transmission problems

The transmission in your vehicle is a 4L30E model, manufactured by General Motors, and used in vehicles from BMW's to Cadillacs,Isuzu's and Honda's.The transmission is BASED on the old Chevette Turbo Hydramatic 180 model. The 4L30E is basically a TH180 with an overdrive unit added on.I rebuild transmissions for a living, and have seen the 4L30E over and over with the same failures, inherent weaknesses, and every transmission model has them, just in different areas. The 4L30E failures are nothing new,so don't despair.Hopefully the trans currently in your truck will be problem free.
