Question about Dodge Omni

I just inherited a long garaged but well maintained 1988 dodge omni hatchback. was there a flap about this car, maybe a recall, something about steering. Consumer Reports put a loud warning out about this car?

When you google this, there is one item, and that was that the company logo or label did not appear on the horn button on the steering wheel. When I saw your question, I remembered this incident, but only slightly, so I went to Google and apparently it was much ado about nothing.

1988 dodge omni sounds like it will start.... then won't. Positive battery terminal very hot. Rolled it and it started. Today won't start. Any suggestions?

Check the positive battery cable. Heat is a sign of a poor connection. If badly corroded, take off and clean it, also check other end where cable connects to starter. You may need a new cable.

On the positive side of battery Julie is where your fusible links are,you say it's getting hot,I would follow all wires, look for burnt or swollen wires, they go to starter. Here's a wiring diagram,it shows that you have 3 fusible links leaving your positive battery, they need looking at,check all wiring in line with positive battery cable.Look at diagram number 25,enlarge to see.

Could be the alternator - did you pull the fuses and check with a test light or meter ?
You can get the wiring diagrams in a Haynes book or on some of the auto parts online stores under repair help.

1988 2.2 dodge omni, when started revs really high. What could be wrong?

If you are still using the carb engine check the idle up, there is the carb's version of a fast idle control. Some carbs would have a lever that pushes the throttle a little higher during start up. There is a screw there that you can adjust.

If it is an EFI engine, if you are experiencing very cold temperature, your car maybe compensating.

Dodge omni will not start and run when it is cold will run fine when it comes out of a warm garage

The choke assembly needs to be adjusted. Should take a good mechanic about 5-10 minutes.
