'96 Cadi Seville- 97000 miles- good condition. I just had new battery installed after dying in office parking lot at 9:30 pm. AAA response did not have heavy battery "N" so they towed it next morning to shop- found correct battery, installed. Returned car to me. Computer crazy- all the way from 13.3 down to 11.2- they ordered alternator from NAPA. Installed 8.12.08. Returned car to me at office. On way home, computer varied from 13.3- 12.4. Today, on first outing- within 10 minutes. engine died at Traffic light stop. Took a bit of praying and 5-6 starts to get it moving. Computer said "emission" Finally got it back to shop- they said computer will reset itself. Is this true? sound of a fan running all the time- new to me. Your comments will be appreciated. Alternator is warranted- they said would replace if does not settle down. Senior citizen- female'96 Cadi Seville- 97000 miles- good condition. at the connections on the compressor unit
if you have to ask then you will not have the manifold gauges or possible the right gas for the recharge
get advice from an ac specialist before you start
If you need a recharge, you have a leak. You will be losing refrigerant 24 hours a day / 7 days a week and need to recharge when it gets low. Most garages and shops offer recharging A/C units from $99 and up. You might want to get an estimate to have the leak fixed before recharging as that would be a "once & done" arrangement. If the leak is in a location that is hard to access, it may cost over $1000 to fix - in which case recharging once or twice a year may not be quite so bad.. Good luck!
Hi Maharba,
I think you need to have the unit recharged with the correct gas. Have the experts carry out the job and have them check for leakage before recharging the unit.

You could need a recharge of freon or your A/C pump is bad. You can go to your local garage and have them recharge with an aftermaket freon kit or the dealer and have them put it on an a/c machine and really diagnose the problem
This solution may be too late but will help others with same problem. The E30 series have 2 rechargeable batteries on the (Service Indicator) SI board WHEN FITTED. located within the dash unit ( tacho/speedo/temp/fuel Unit) they have a life span of 6 years however mine lasted 17years not bad for a rechargeable batt anyway back to the point the effects of a buggered batts are
Inconsistent taco and temp guages
background radio noise (old model radios)
and THE INABILITY TO TURN SERVICE LIGHTS OFF !
The batts can be found in CONRAD (germany) MAPLIN (uk) the cos of the batts are approx £3 the new board costs direct from BMW with trade discount approx £200 in 2007 have fun (soldering required to replace batts) :-]
