Question about 1993 GMC Sierra C2500

1 Answer

I have an '08 2500 w/ Duramax. My dash diagnostic LED said "change exhaust filter" then "se owners manual" and the engine light came on. There's no info for changing and exhaust filter in the manual. I've driven it for about 200 miles since and just today the dash LED said "loss of engine power" and the engine light is still on. Any idea what may be causing this. I did replace the exhaust to 4" and the intake filter to a high-performance unit, along with a SuperChip programmer when I bought the truck about 6 months ago.

The 08 diesel vehicles have a particulate filter much like a catalytic converter an a gas engine, these exhaust cannot be modified by removing the filter . The PCM will monitor this function and alert you with a service engine light if an issue is detected . Removing this filter will also cause the vehicle to go into a low power mode until the problem is repaired . It is also illegal to remove this filter as it part of your emission system for that vehicle . I don't think your programmer and intake would cause you any issues.

I have a 2001 LS Lincoln. No owners manual. The dash has a couple of codes on an led type screen for "change AC filter" and "change oil" messages. I did the work but the messages still...

Look for the Information Center panel above the Audio controls.. There should be 4 buttons labeled Fuel, Setup, Reset, and Status. With the engine running, press the Status button until the change oil required message appears, then press and hold the reset button until the message appears that says oil life restored to 100%. Do the same for the a/c filter.

Just changed oil on 2008 chev 2500HD Duramax and it is already black could this be a problem? i have noticed a clicking sound not constant but random coming from somewhere on the block

You need to run an engine cleaner through your engine. Drain about 1 quart out and pour in a bottle of cleaner. Let engine run for about 5 minutes and drain oil and change oil filter. You may want to consider doing this with the next 2-3 oil changes to remove all the build-up in the engine. You will tell a big difference. Also, some do this as I am one of them. During the winter months I use a thicker oil and during the summer the recommended oil weight. Just to assure you it's fine, read the owners manual and it should be in there about using a heavier weight. Good Luck

My change oil light never goes off even though I had it changed and now my service vehicle soon light is on even though its been running fine

The change oil light needs to be reset after each oil change...some shops are not knowledgeable on how to do this...Your owners manual will instruct you how to reset the oil change light...The service engine soon is a catch all for low fluids and other needs...Be sure to check your oil level again...to clear the service engine soon light, you can disconnect either battery cable for 15 minutes then reconnect...if the service engine stays on...then you need to have your Grand Am checked...Auto Zone does a free diagnostic of check engine light codes...:)

Reset change oil light

hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

The check exhaust filter light came on in my 2007 GMC Sierra truck 2500 duramax. I do not have the owners manual but I know the dealer will just reset the computer in the truck. How can I reset it myself?

There is a procedure for your exhaust system. Its called Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration. Your dealer will have to do this for you. The particulate filter is in the exhaust system. It traps large carbon particulates so they don't get out into the air. The system is designed to take care of itself but does need to be done by someone with a tech2 scanner.

How do I change the fuel filter on a 2002 gmc sierra duramax deisel? And where is it located?

becarfull, the fuel filter os on the passenger side of the engine compartment. after replacing the fuel filter you need to prime the system to get all the air out of the fuel system otherwise the engine will crank and crank and never start. if this happens, you'll need how to prime the system or tow the truck to the nearest Gm dealership.
read the owners manual for help.

Service engine soon light is on and needs to be turned off. The truck has just rolled over to 190,000 km and the light came on when it hit 190. I have changed the oil and filter at 189,000 so I know there...

The service engine soon light indicates a malfunction. You need to bring it to a parts store where a scan tool is plugged into the diagnostic port (under the dash usually) so any codes of problems are 'read' from the truck's computer. This is a free service here, not sure where you live. They can tell you what codes are showing up, and recommend what to do to correct them. Once corrected, the indicator light will go out. Check this web site, although it states you can purchase an original owner's manual, I was able to download one for free for your year and model. It contains a lot of great info for your truck.
