Is battery fully charged?
If it is it could be faulty starter switch or solenoid.
Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

I own a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5, and have power in the "run" key position, but when i turn all the way to start the engine, nothing happens. I have 11.7 VDC from the battery so it is charged.

Sounds like the starter relay or the solenoid is on the start itself is badSome of the MX-5 also had a fuse for the ignition, check that also.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. When you first turn the key, you should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on. You should hear a buzzing sound for a second or two. It may be the fuel pump, clogged filter, bad injectors, fuel pump fuse, relay, or reset, if equipped. It could be in the ignitions. Let me know if the pump is kicking on and we will take it from there. If it is not, check to see if it is the fuel pump fuse or relay. I am not sure which ones you have. It should be marked in the fuse box though.

91 miata main pulley lookes as if it wobbles

With a 1991 Miata you may have a short nosed crankshaft which is prone to cracking and breaking. If you have a 1991 with VIN 209447or more you should be safe. If the number is below that you need to head over to the garage section of Miata.net where you will find several articles on this very problem.

Here is a link to an excellent write up on the problem:

Good luck.

91 miata mx-5 cuts out at 2200 rpms- cant smog- check eng. lite isn't on

The very first thing to do is replace the ignition wires. These were a very common problem on Miatas. Since you're taking them off, it would be a good idea to change the plugs as well. These things are really just maintenance, but one other thing to check is the condition of the intake hose. It is critical that the hose that runs between the throttle body and the airflow meter has no cracks or flaws. Sometimes they are hard to see because the hose has creases in it. It's a good idea to take the hose off and inspect it carefully. If it is broken in anyway, the airflow meter won't know how much air is entering the engine and fuel will be cut off.
