Gear shift lever was replaced 3 weeks ago due to an issue of not being able to move the lever from Park into any gear. Now the key got stuck in the ignition and I can't turn the ignition. I wiggled the steering wheel thinking that would release the ignition switch. did not work...also tried to move the shifting lever, wouldn't move either. any ideas? Ford is telling me this is not covered under my extended warranty...why do we buy extended warranty if the parts aren't covered. That's what they told me about the shifting lever too, until I called Ford Customer Care.

Car stuck in Park, shifter won't move. - DoItYourself.com ...

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

if you look on the center council where the shift lever is you will see a small plastic button on the drivers. Remove the button. Insert a small screwdriver into the hole and push down. You will then be able to move the shift lever into nuetral and push the car.

you have to push your shift override button? Your cable that runs from your ignition/steering column to your shift knob could be worn and therefore loose not allowing the car the be shifted out of park (as if your key weren't in the ignition). Hope this helps
