Scanner problems Has anyone ever used an ACTRON CP9175 scanner to get codes from a 2004 buick lesabre??? Mine or Auto zones will not communicate with the car although a SNAP ON will...ever have this problem???
More than likely it's because the internal program is not interfacing with your vehicle. most scanners are programed with updated cam/cad where the smaller code readers only have OBD1 and 2 most vehicle computers after 2003 no longer use obd1 and 2...please rate the solution

Flashing check engine light means don't drive it. It can damage things. Get a code scanner from auto parts store, rent it buy it etc. run the scanner to see what it says
Go to Auto Zone or Advance auto and they will read them for free. They will also tell you what they mean. If you want to look them up later you can look them up at http://www.2carpros.com/kpages/diagnostic_trouble_codes.htm
The Communications error is usually no power to the DTC connector, which is the same fuse as the cigar lighter.
Do you have another key to test with ? IF so, turn the key from off to run ( do not start ) and let the self test finish. If the light goes out, the crank no start could be a fuel pump, fuel pump fuse, fuel inertia switch or fuel pump relay issue.
I had similar symptoms with my 2001 F-150, and it was the fuel pump relay. I swapped it with the trailer tow ( reverse or battery charge, which ever is the same size relay as the fuel pump ) and it was fine again.
well really the only wsay you can figure out why the air bag light is on,is to go to the dealer so they can hook up the scanner and see what code it has in it,there could be a bunch of different things wrong with but the code will point you in the right direction,,,,,,but only the dealer scanner will read air bag codes, the cheaper scanners like auto zones actron, and even the cheaper snap-on and mac do not read it either,so your kinda stuck going to the dealer to find out, if your not familiar with air bags let them work on it,as you could accidently deploy the air bags when your working with the system,,they are sensitive and i would not want to see you get injured
Could have a bad injector or PSM problem. When idle is bad start pulling each spark plug one at a time , if no change then thats the bad cylinder. Could be a spark plug too. Buy a spark plug wire puller to do this job (plastic only and only use one hand)
I wouldnt recomend this..
you could fry your pcm!
go to your local auto zone and let them scan it for free
or for $200 you could buy a actron generic scanner at auto zone..i like em
then consult your manual for dtc's
They air bag module has lost communication or in other words, cant control a SIR component.
Take your vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan for codes, write the code down and respond back to me and we can go from there.
Let me know.
Regards,
I found several shops in my area, Albany, NY that had the older code readers. It worked fine, and cost me $30.00. It showed a bad O2 sensor that I replaced myself. I suggest you go to a reliable shop. Auto Zone/Advance etc.. do not have the right code readers.

in 1993, the computer systems were obd 1. which generally needed battery power to run scanner. 1996 up is obd2 and powers up scanner through data connector. not sure what kind of scanner you have. is it powering up ok and not communicating or cant get scanner to turn on?
