That doesn't make the most of sense. it sounds like the problem is in the brake booster. it is the aid / power assist to the brakes.

Brake booster


With the engine off, depress the brake pedal about 6 times, all the way up and down. While holding the hard pedal down, start the engine, and if the booster is working properly, the pedal will fade down a little bit.

Vw golf 2000 the brake pedal is to soft when you apply it and seems like is not going to stop but it does, what is the problem?

BRAKE BOOSTER INSPECTION

Functional test:
1. With the engine stopped, Depress the brake pedal several times, then depress the pedal hard and hold that pressure for 15 seconds. If the pedal sinks, the master cylinder, brake line or a brake caliper is faulty
2. Start the engine with the pedal depressed. If the pedal sinks slightly, the vacuum booster is working. If the pedal height does not vary, the booster or the check valve is faulty

Leak Test:
1. Depress the brake pedal with the engine running then stop the engine. If the pedal height does not vary while depressed for 30 seconds, the vacuum booster is OK. If the pedal rises, the booster is faulty
2. With the engine stopped, depress the brake pedal several times using normal pressure. When the pedal is first depressed, it should be low. On consecutive applications, the pedal height should gradually rise. If the pedal position does not vary, check the booster check valve.

Check valve test:
1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose at the booster.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. There should be a vacuum available. If no vacuum is available, the check valve is not working correctly. Replace the check valve and retest.

Brake pedal has alot of back pressure and car moves in gear.Have to press real hard to stop.How to check abs pump if has one where or brake booster or master cylinder?Don't know how to trouble shoot or...


The air seeping is a dead giveaway. Your power brakes are now manual brakes, but stiffer. The diaphram in the brake booster has torn and the hissing noise is the engine vacuum escaping (you hear it louder when you depress the pedal right?). Replace the booster and you will be fine. The brake lights probably don't work because you can't push the pedal down far enought to release the switch. Please rate. Thanks.

Check the Brake Pedal Position Switch on top of the brake pedal, the Lt Green w/Red stripe wire should always have 12v+, when brake pedal is depressed the Lt Green wire should have 12v+ also, if no power on Lt. Green w/Red wire, check fuse # 2 20A, if no power on Lt. Green wire when pedal depressed, REPLACE Switch, If there is power on both wires when pedal is depressed, check IVD STOP LAMP RELAY on the Aux. Relay Box 1 located at the Left Front of the Engine Compartment.

well, a hard firm pedal, usually indicates a bad brake booster or a vacuum leak to booster or the vacuum check valve, on booster. TO TEST BRAKE BOOSTER; pump brakes several times with engine off to deplete stored vacuum. turn on engine with pushing slightly on pedal. you should feel the pedal fade away a bit and then become firm, but not hard. if you feel nothing at the pedal when engine starts the booster is at fault. good-luck !!

I have to boost vehicle off every morning.Battery and Alternator good but every morning battery dead after sitting over night.Hook battery cables up and starts up after a few minutes


I guess that your battery is being run down by a device sapping energy from the battery. I would guess off the top of my head that it is the brake lights as that is a common problem of vehicles. The brake light is activated by a small switch mounted under the driver's side, up near the leg of the brake pedal. That switch is spring backed so that when you depress the pedal the shaft of the switch is let forward and turns on the brake light. That switch sometimes comes loose or half cocked in the housing and stays activated all the time until you let the brake pedal loose and the leg of the pedal depresses the switch shaft just enough to turn off the brake light. The solution is to replace the switch, at about 15 bucks at your Advance Store. or 10 bucks plus shipping on the internet. You can check when you leave the vehicle to see if the brake lights are still on. Mind you, this does not happen all the time as sometimes it is cured by the action of the brake pedal knocking the shaft back in line

When I start engine then depress brake pedal and try to depress shift lever button I can't get it ou of park. This happens 6 times out of 10.


In the area of the shifter (in the center console), there is a shift lock solenoid that is activated by the brake switch. This solenoid prevents shifting out of the Park position unless the brake pedal is depressed. Your problem could be either the brake switch or the solenoid. I would try replacing the switch first.

I had this exact same problem...turns out it has to do with a recall having to do with the stop lamp switch. I took it to the dealership and it only took about 20 minutes form them to fix it.
Hyundai is recalling 531,894 MY 2006-2007 Accent, Entourage, Sonata, MY 2007 Azera, Elantra and Santa FE, MY 2005-2007 Tucson and MY 2007-2008 Veracruz vehicles. The stop lamp switch in the affected vehicles may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. A stop lamp switch malfunction may also affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature so the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of the park position. It may also cause the electronic stability control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Any of these malfunctions, alone or in combination, may lead to a crash. Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch free of charge. The recall began on April 23, 2009. Owners may contact the Hyundai Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-633-5151. This recall was the result of a Preliminary Evaluation conducted by the Office of Defects Investigation.

Ford Bronco II spongy brake pedal


if the booster is bad the pedal would be hard sounds like the e-brake is stuck take off the drums and make sure the arms are all the way back then did you adjust the rear brakes after changing the shoes
