Both engines will require the removal of the timing belt to service the front crank seal. Both engines will also require the removal of the transmission to replace the rear main seal
either way way you would be looking at 3-4 hours for the front seal and 5 to 6 hours for the rear seal.
Hello Richard, the bearing and seal kit will run you about $75, i recommend using a Timken bearing over the AC Delco. Two hours labor to install is the norm for most shops @ $85- $95 per hour. Dealer rates will be higher. Estimated repair cost $265.00. I hope this helps.
Hi, Well, there several ways that I know to handle this. FIRST: Don't go back there.
If you only have 26,500 miles on a car that is now 7 years old, you are not using it very much. I don't even consider your car as broken in. The assertion that the car needs a new bearing in the engine sounds to me as though the technician had the apparition of the angel of money appear in front of him while working on your wallet (I mean Porsche).
SECOND: The usage on your car is so low that, if you took it on a trip, the leak might very well stop completely, on it's own.
THIRD: There is an excellent bottle of leak stopper sold at Walmart that handles rear main bearing seals. It costs about $3,994.00 less then your previous estimate. I used it on a really serious front main bearing oil leak (usually this sort of product won't work well on front main bearings) on my 23 year Mercedes with 166,000 miles. I hope this helps, Best Regards, Mark
advance auto parts total price for all bearing, front and rear and seals come to $70.00. labor should be about that much(plus cost of grease) good luck
If you can estimate the labor rate in your are you should be able to get a good idea of the cost.

time to take it to the dealer for an estimate only. Then get the repairs done as you can afford them at a independent garage. Sadly it may be time for a replacement auto if the rear main seal, or the crank seal is leaking.
